Would you support lockdowns for the unvaccinated ?

Austria is days away from ordering millions of unvaccinated people to stay at home, its chancellor has said, in a rare move that underscores the increasing exasperation of European leaders towards those who have not yet been inoculated against Covid-19.

Under Austria's plan, which was agreed in September, unvaccinated Austrians will face a stay-at-home order once 30% of intensive-care beds are occupied by Covid-19 patients. The current rate is 21%, according to the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), and a surge in infections has pushed it up quickly.

Unvaccinated people are already excluded from entertainment venues, restaurants, hairdressers and other parts of public life in Austria. If the new measures come into place, the unvaccinated will be ordered to stay home except for a few limited reasons; the rules will be policed by officers carrying out spot checks on those who are out.

Around 65% of Austria's population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19, one of the lower rates in the European Union.
''It is clear that this winter will be uncomfortable for the unvaccinated," Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg warned on Thursday.

If the vaccine works, why should the vaccinated fear the unvaccinated? If it doesn't work then nobody should be coerced into getting vaccinated.

@StrictSouthernHOH First generation vaccines are not a guarantee of full immunity as you have repeatedly beeing told. It just improves your ability to fight the disease and makes it more survivable and harder to catch for the individual. Lowering the risk of explosure plays a big part. 😷
@StrictSouthernHOH Jesus fuck, how many times do I have to explain this to you people? It's called herd immunity. A certain percentage of people get the vaccine so the virus can't fucking mutate and reinfect the vaccinated. How fucking hard is this? It's literally the same way every other vaccine ever invented by humans has worked.

@StrictSouthernHOH You are addressing an important point, thank you.
Here's my personal answer:

If too many unvaccinated persons are "occupying" ICU beds, it will soon become impossible to take care of people with other serious diseases such as cancer or a stroke.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@helenS So if the vaxed start occupying all the ICU beds????? It is becoming more and more obvious that the vaxes are far more dangerous than the disease.
helenS · 36-40, F
@hippyjoe1955 Thank you, but I do not think you are expressing an educated opinion.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@helenS That is already happening.
@StrictSouthernHOH I think the unvaccinated are more afraid of losing their freedom.
helenS · 36-40, F
@JimboSaturn At the moment, at least in EU countries such as Austria, there are still enough vacancies in ICUs.
In early 2020 we had a horrible situation in the Veneto (Italy), where some members of my family live. People dying at home by the thousands and no free beds in hospitals.
helenS · 36-40, F
@latinbutterfly Yes, and in reality our freedom is taken away by the virus, not the vaccine.

@helenS Ditto. I am simply repeating what my ER doctor tells me. The horror stories he shares makes one's hair curl. Of course I don't need his stories since I lost family to the vax and have seen enough really really serious vax injuries to know better. Strange thing though. In my circle of friends and acquaintances I don't know anyone who has been in hospital with covid. Doug, Dave, Aron, Reese, Steph, Pierre all have been hospitalized with vax. Doug died from it. Dave lost part of his bowel to it, Aron, Reese and Steph have major heart issues from it and Pierre has significant nerve damage. Your education seems to be severely lacking.

@OldMan70 Many kids, especially those attending schools together, have natural immunity. The infection, hospitalization and death rates are much lower for them.

@StrictSouthernHOH Having had covid and finding it to be a very mild cold which I didn't miss a day's work and was completely healed 4 days after feeling a bit off.... The same with Dear Wife and two daughters and one son. If that was it I would take it over the vax any day. My brother in law was killed by the jab.
@StrictSouthernHOH I see. Got any documented evidence, or is this just going to be one of those things where you tell me to look it up myself? Because, spoiler alert, people who say that never have any actual evidence to back up their positive claims.
@helenS Yes, exactly.
@helenS
Yes, and in reality our freedom is taken away by the virus, not the vaccine.
I could hug you. I legitimately could. And I want to quote you everywhere in the world, both offline and on.

@LordShadowfire $0.01 per quote please. 😏
StrictSouthernHOH · 46-50, M
@LordShadowfire Schools are a petri dish full of bacteria. Children frequently expose each other to coronaviruses, thus building their natural immunity. Homeschooled children are an obvious exception. Why else have we seen lower overall infection and death rates in children? I am not saying anyone should avoid the vaccine, but it should not be mandated.

@StrictSouthernHOH From what I have read by experts in the field- Children lack the receptors the virus needs in order to infect a cell. I honestly can't remember the name of the receptors but according to several experts in childhood diseases those receptors don't develop until late teens early 20s. I am certainly not a doctor and am only relaying what I have seen actual doctors said.
@StrictSouthernHOH I see. So the only evidence you have is your own hypothesis. Just checking.
helenS · 36-40, F
@canusernamebemyusername That's not quite fair. That's a different story.
@StrictSouthernHOH In the US, at least, there were NO significant numbers of cases being reported in healthy children & healthy young adults for quite some time...

That ALL changed with the Delta variant.

Why?

It packs a viral load 1,000 times--yes, one THOUSAND times--that of the original variant.

What if, in another 18 mos.,we get a NEW variant which is 1,000 times *worse* than the Delta variant?

Do you want to try for a variant which has 1,000,000 times--yes, one MILLION times--the viral load of the original strain?

How much worsening of this virus do you want to support? How many more deaths before *you* "wake up"?
