yes i believe

Nope. Basic stochastic theory says that if you've been waiting X amount of time for an event, and the only info you have is the time waited so far, the optimal estimator for the amount of time remaining is equal to the time waited so far.

People thought the apocalypse had come in 999, they thought so again in 1666, and again in 1999 among other many many other years of predicted apocalypses. My best guess is we'll be waiting about 2000 more years.

Update: I admit, it's not a terribly useful estimator. Optimal doesn't always mean good; sometimes it means least bad.

I think it is significant that Israel controls the Holy Temple.
@Pfuzylogic me too.
monte3 · 70-79, M
@Pfuzylogic didn’t the Romans destroy that about 60 AD?
Pfuzylogic · M
@monte3 One can’t destroy a location, heritage or desire to rebuild.
It's a new beginning, humanity needs to nurture the fields and weed out the intruders, is all an apocalypse is.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@checkoutanytime It's really time that you talk to someone with a comfy chair.
@Kwek00 my chair at home is very comfy.
monte3 · 70-79, M
2021 marks the 2,021st year that was supposed to be the start of the end times. Next year will be the 2,022nd. 🤷‍♂️
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@monte3 Lol no I was enjoying the apocalyptic vibe.
SW-User
@monte3 There's been kind of a lot...there's always some prophet with a due date!
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Nope. I do have fears for America as a free republic as I see on the news some GOP governors have vowed to refuse to certify ANY Democratic win in an election and insert their own people in place of the elected officials.
SW-User
@ron122 I daresay you're happy with that :)
ron122 · 41-45, M
@SW-User Oh you daresay do you🤣
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@ChipmunkErnie A link to one such video would be good.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
No, because I don't believe in such things.

What I do believe is that the world is becoming ever more unstable and uncertain; but in very real, human affairs, not ones excuseable by superstition.
Steve42 · 56-60, M
@ArishMell I've died twice. Once at 15 and once at 54. My faith is based on my experience so it is different for me.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Steve42 Oh, I do accept that you amd very many others find comfort and support in being religious; but I was really answering the general point about so-called "end times" and the like.
There’s a lot of people in this world who have no doubt about stuff with no evidence. That’s the power of faith I suppose. I just hope faith doesn’t lead people to commit atrocities, as history has shown it can.
Steve42 · 56-60, M
@BiasForAction 41 active volcano's. Wars, rumors of wars. Civil wars. Genocide, Ethiopia. 5g.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Steve42 Apart from 5G all those have been with us in varying degrees since time immemorial.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
No.. This is just another empire imploding slowly. Between people and the collapse of Money, and the climate debacle thats going to happen there will be enough people left to try again.😷
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@whowasthatmaskedman Hopefully it's the right type of people who recognize climate change and try to do something about it after it's all said and done.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@SatanBurger Hopefully.. But usually when all is said and done, a lot more will be said than done. But we humans do have a history of fast adaptation. So those who adapt will no doubt make it.😷

So, what are you going to do about it?

You are back on the sauce. I am saying this as a public service message: please seek help.
@Northwest my taxes are paid, and I am on my owned property, your silent alarm one day will not be answered , pursuing that avenue, I guarantee it.

Just clean your room and stop whining
Stopmakingsense · 56-60, F
No. That's nonsense. We're facing the end of the US empire, the collapse of capitalism and global warming.
Wiseacre · F
Idk, but we’ve entered something..and it isn’t good!
Steve42 · 56-60, M
@Wiseacre Indeed.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I'm the poor man's Orwell.
Adstar · 56-60, M
Yes i do..

If the world is still in the same state in 20 years time i will be very surprised.. I am personaly looking towards the year 2030 for a lot of things to happen by..

Anyway we do not even know if we will still be alive tomorrow so irrespective of the near future be sure you are in the right place with the LORD Jesus and all will be well.
The US was saved from extinction when Trump was booted out, but that might go back to doomsday again if he gets back in.
Pfuzylogic · M
@UreBesFrend
I dislike trump as much as anyone but it seems like your response goes on a serious tangent.
@Pfuzylogic The effects of Trump are still happening today. China is gearing up for war, and Trump is the one poking them with a stick. When Biden came in, he should have done everything possible to smooth that over, but it seems he let it all slide as-is, so nothing has improved, and in fact, is getting worse. One consolation though, if there is a war, it will be fast. Started and ended in two days, and everyone dies.
Pfuzylogic · M
@UreBesFrend
That is one idea.
I don’t find your evidence compelling considering we have gone through 2 World Wars and a Cold War with the Soviet Union.
SW-User
No, I do not. Life will go on; we are not as unique as we think we are.
NorthernBear · 51-55, M
We do have the pestilence in spades

@NorthernBear Honestly, a relatively mild pestilence (death rate 1% to 2%), nothing special in the Earthquake or famine departments. Great signs from Heaven? Does that mean a few billionaires riding rockets? I don't think so.

Nope. What we have now is nothing near as dire as what Luke describes.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
I hope. I'm looking forward to the Eldritch horrors.
ravenhill · M
we certainly live in 'funny' times.
No one knows but it seems like we are.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Better put on clean underwear then.

Here we go again 🙄

@Thedoorislocked I'm trying to ignore that our world is going to hell in a hand basket and that humanity is awful and that we would all be better off starting over ...there's no saving it
@SW-User you’re right. Can’t help to wonder though.

@Thedoorislocked what's the point ?
Lushiro · M
We were always living in the End Times since the beginning of the fall.
What makes you believe that?
Steve42 · 56-60, M
@BohemianBoo Read the book of revelation and tell me if it remind you of anything.
@Steve42 I did. I think you can argue that any generation feels like the end times.
SW-User
Pompeii definitely springs to mind.

No, I don't believe we are in a non-existent time from a fantasy novel.

Woe to you, o'er Earth and Sea
For the Devil sends the beast with wrath
Because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast
For it is a human number
Its number is six hundred and sixty six
