The USA has not had actual leftists in politics since the hippie generation and sadly even most of those groups were 90% FBI plants. I think at one point the Communist Party of the USA was 95% FBI confidential informants. The USSR had nothing on the USA on infiltrating opposing ideologies. What makes it kind of funny is the far left basically saved capitalism in the 30s with Roosevelt. The purges started in earnest in the 50s and never stopped. Even here in Canada the first Marxist elected to parliament was jailed so he could not take his seat and everyone left of the likes of Justin Trudeau were under RCMP (like the FBI) surveillance till about 92.

@DeWayfarer The only reason why someone like Bernie seems like a leftist is because America has shifted so far right among the political elite that Pat Buchanan is seen as a liberal and Ronald Reagan would be a commie pinko in the current GOP and even segments of the Democratic Party.
