Why do liberals care more about helping refugees than they do for veterans?

Why are the ones that we are least obligated to care about get prioritization over the people who served our country?

I find it's often the people who say 'We should help our own people first' who didn't seem to care about the veterans until they read about refugees being helped. Odd that.
