This is very interesting.

Strange how the CIA abruptly becomes the dumbest & most ineffectual organization on Earth the moment a politician wants to withdraw from an endless war. It's almost like they wanna retaliate against politicians who marginally diminish their power.

Everyone wanted out of Afghanistan. It's how Biden screwed it up that people are talking about.

@ron122 Uh-huh. Twenty years of warfare and bloodshed, twenty years of civilians getting bombed, soldiers returning home in coffins, trillions of dollars getting pissed down the drain, and virtually no media coverage for the vast majority of that time. Then Biden pulls out and suddenly, every cable company on Earth is shaking in their boots about the women's rights situation and the interpreters and the embassy personnel.

My dude, they don't want out of Afghanistan. They just don't. CNN invited John fucking Bolton -- Mr. Iraq War himself -- on air to talk about how horrible the US withdrawal is. Donald Trump blasted Biden for the withdrawal despite the fact that he had literally four years in which he could've done it any time -- arguing FOR an expedited immigration process despite having drafted the Muslim Ban.

Look, I'm not a hundred percent happy with how this whole thing has gone down. Biden should've withdrawn all our embassy personnel before withdrawing the first soldier, sure. Congress should've passed a law allowing for the emergency intake of Afghan interpreters. That seems pretty reasonable. But in fairness to both groups, the CIA predicted that it would take 90 days for the Afghan government to fall. Maybe Biden's a fool for believing them, but maybe it's ridiculous to expect the President to engineer everything right while the deep state actively works to sabatogue him.

But for all that awfulness, there have been no reports of American civilians killed by the Taliban throughout this whole clusterfuck and the Administration sent 3,000 troops back to escort the rest of our fellas out of that hellhole.

All I'm saying is that when something wonderful happens, maybe don't nitpick every little detail of it so hard that you ignore the fact that something wonderful is happening. And maybe don't take politicians & media personalities at their word when they say they support something popular. People lie my dawg.
@ron122 You mean Trump's plan wasn't awesome? Interesting. I see plenty of attacks but no evidence or solutions offered.
@BlueVeins Just one point. They did tell everyone not essential to GTFO as far back as April. So anyone still around probably needed to be there or and some are probably the Americans famous for ignoring State Department advisories.

On everything else I totally agree.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I honestly can't find a single source for this because the news cycle is crazy rn, but iirc the Administration left a skeleton crew in the embassy to carry out necessary functions. Which that's kinda in line with what you're saying, but frankly I think that begs a legitimate question of priorities, when we're prioritizing diplomatic procedures with a government that's about to fall over the safety of those diplomats.

But honestly, if we can get all the civilians out alive -- which looks like what's gonna happen -- I'll be happy anyway. It was a clusterfuck, but such is the nature of war.
@BlueVeins I agree. But some in the administration were under the delusional belief that a college professor from Berkeley was going to keep the place together for at least 6 months. That was probably the biggest fuck up of all of this.
