It depends. The person sentenced was in the Capitol and breached one of the chambers, but was not violent. Other people will receive longer sentences for their crimes against the nation at Trump's behest. The politicians that assisted them in their attempted coup should face the harshest penalties.

@DonaldTrumpet Did Trump grab Kim's?
mikeylyksit · 41-45, M
@windinhishair Y'know, I keep seeing people claim that Trump ordered the people to invade the capital. But near as I can tell, that is politically biased crap based on nothing but emotion or wishful thinking. If you review the tapes of what Trump said before, during and after the riots....
The only instruction he gave to the rioters was "go home". Oh, but we need to impeach him for telling people to go home.

It's true that a lot of people in the riot were (insane) trump supporters. They were not there on the orders of Trump. And when Trump learned that they were rioting, he simply told them to go home. What could be a more logical, reasonable suggestion than THAT?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@mikeylyksit You "forgot" this part of the speech. Which was part of the Save America Rally.
We're going to walk down. Anyone you want, but I think right here, we're going to walk down to the Capitol--

And we're going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women and we're probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them.

Because you'll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong.

We have come to demand that Congress do the right thing and only count the electors who have been lawfully slated. Lawfully slated.
Many of the Trump Cult have testified under oath and made public statements that they were in Washington on Trump's orders, and that they stormed the Capitol because Trump told them too. You can believe otherwise, but the people who were there and committed treason against the nation believed they were doing it for Trump. It couldn't be clearer that Trump called for insurrection, and that, my friend, is and will always be an impeachable offense.
@mikeylyksit Then why did Traitor Tot sit on his ass for hours before sending in the National Guard? He was clearly hoping that the rioters would disrupt the vote count.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@LeopoldBloom Not only that, but Trump was gleeful that his Cult was willing to put their own lives on the line for him. He wouldn't have given a second thought to Pence being killed by them.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@windinhishair Isn't it possible to charge someone with incitement to violence in the US?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@ninalanyon It is possible, and it may still happen. The Republicans are doing everything they can to protect their Dear Leader.

@LeopoldBloom No matter what the circumstances, you think long and hard before you declare war on United States citizens. To call out the National Guard as an instant and first response would be criminally reckless.

@mikeylyksit Why does it have to be black and white? People broke into the Capitol while Congress was carrying out its constitutional duty; Trump should have sent in the National Guard immediately.

I'm more interested in why there wasn't more security around the Capitol in advance, since everyone knew there was going to be a rally, and this was the next-to-last chance to overturn the election (the last chance would have been Biden's inauguration). Not that you'll believe any of it, but the Commission will be looking into this. As President, Trump was responsible for national security.
mikeylyksit · 41-45, M
@LeopoldBloom "People broke into the Capitol while Congress was carrying out its constitutional duty; Trump should have sent in the National Guard immediately."

Why don't we ask China how well sending in the troops immediately works?

windinhishair · 61-69, M
@mikeylyksit As incredible as it may seem, the US is not China. If the Trump Cult is breaking the law and committing violence against the police, they should be met with force to prevent a coup that destroys democracy. If some of the Cult members give their lives for nothing, like Ashli Babbitt, oh well. That's their choice. @LeopoldBloom is correct--the National Guard should have been sent in immediately to restore order and prevent the coup. Any real President would have done it, in either party. Trump wanted his Cult to install him as President and overthrow the election results. By God's Grace that did not happen, though Trump and his sycophants continue to lie about it.
mikeylyksit · 41-45, M
@windinhishair The day the President orders troops to fire on other United States citizens is the day that our country ceases to exist in any form...

By God's grace we had a president wise enough not to go there.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@mikeylyksit If US citizens are trying to destroy democracy and install their own dictator as Supreme Leader, it is already dead.

Trump chose not to call out the National Guard because his Cult was already doing his express bidding, and he was very happy about it. Trump WAS the problem. It had nothing to do with God's Grace.
@mikeylyksit Trump was going to have the National Guard fire even on peaceful black civil rights protesters. If the Capitol rioters had been black, I’ve no doubt that he would’ve given the order. And the racist right-wing would’ve had no problem with it.

@mikeylyksit now there's an asinine deflection

@bijouxbroussard It would have been like Kent State 1970 all over again.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SubstantialKick People ignore the fact that one of the four killed at Kent State by the National Guard was an ROTC member who could have ended up in their ranks. It was an indiscriminate slaughter, as would have happened if Trump gave the order for the National Guard to stop the peaceful protests for George Floyd.
