Funny you should mention Cuba. Most conservatives whine about immigrants getting special treatment. You should look at the perks you get for defecting. Makes it tempting to renounce my Canadian citzenship, become Cuban just so I can defect.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow THOSE ARE the perks...And people are from whatever country in which they were born. Nobody can control whether they are "immigrating from a politically useful country," whatever that even means.

@RedBaron It means if you leave a country like Cuba, tell some horror story (true or imagined) and immigrate to the US you will get special privileges no other refugee even has access to. The perks are basically "payment" to use you as a political PR and optics tool. You get perks for playing your role in the cold war foreign policy narrative. This also used to apply to eastern Europe and the USSR at one time too to varying degrees.
