In the light of the Cummings revelations do we need a Committee for Public Safety, and import some guillotines to Parliament Square?

Burnley123 · 41-45, M
Little of what Cummings said was actually new. The government fucks ups were all in the public domain but were undereported until now.
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Burnley123 rather stirred up by cummings to make things difficult for old mop head
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@smiler2012 I think this is good. Just shows how bad our media is though. They soft pedalled the bad pandemic handling and suddenly pay attention again because of. palace intrigue.

I don’t think there has been much in the way of revelations. Rather allegations, often reinforcing things people believed already. And one thing that seems to be overlooked is that Cummings was actually a member of the administration he is now seeking to rubbish. Technically an adviser rather than a minister, but he liked to put it about that he was in charge and the media were happy to take him at his word.

@MartinII It's also notable that he didn't criticise Sunak or Gove: The two men who happen to be the most likely successors to Johnson. Funny that.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Burnley123 Well his motives are hardly public-spirited. But it is interesting, because so far as one can gather Sunak and Gove have been on opposite sides of the argument within government on the handling of the pandemic. So, for that matter, have Johnson and Hancock.

We need serious jail time for politicians who lie.
This needs to be put into law.
ArtieKat · M
@Entwistle They might as well make the Houses of Parliament and every Town Hall in the UK into high security prisons. It's in the job description.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@ArtieKat I'm with you on this one 🤣
MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
I am not sure about that but we do need a non political panel of experts to deal with situations such as the pandemic. To ensure that the public interest is out first.
MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
@ArtieKat I was thinking the very same thing as I was writing my comment. I guess the best we can hope for is a group of experts from different backgrounds and with different political views.
ArtieKat · M
@MrAverage1965 Yes, agreed
MartinII · 70-79, M
@MrAverage1965 But surely the government’s policy has been largely determined by a non-political panel of so-called experts. Personally I would much prefer it to have been determined by elected politicians, taking account of, but not necessarily following, professional advice.

All I know is that UK politics has some funny names.

smiler2012 · 56-60
{@lust4life ] ha ha heads should role for this tory governments handling of the corona virus in its early stages starting with mophead 😆 but employing a guillitine and an executoner is going to far even for mophead
ArtieKat · M
Revelations or fabrications? I doubt that he will be able to substantiate his accusations, whether or not there's any truth in them
