Does democracy work, or is it simply a cosmetic form of class dictatorship?

Define "Democracy". The founders, the Greeks, did not see Democracy as a set of freedoms. But a set of responsibilities to the State. A vote was an obligation to be taken by learned men only after consultation.
Freedom was the result.

@whowasthatmaskedman So you're pursuit of happiness means bowing down to the mommy state. Amusing
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@sunsporter1649 I assume you have an opinion in there someplace. Try expressing it..

@whowasthatmaskedman Keep kissing the mommy state's rosey red ass, it's so amusing
@sunsporter1649 I’m going out in a limb... but how does emphasizing personal responsibility imply bowing to the nanny state? Personal responsibility is a core conservative value?

@CopperCicada "But a set of responsibilities to the State."
@sunsporter1649 Registering for the selective service. Conscription. Jury duty. Like I said. Civic obligations. Not sure how that is leftist.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@CopperCicada So you enjoy doing what you are told, like a good little lemming. You really enjoy working for the government instead of having the government work for you, through elected representatives doing what they are told to do?
@sunsporter1649 Interesting. I never got called out as a leftist before for defending registration for the selective service.

@CopperCicada When you signing up?
@sunsporter1649 I registered for the selective service in high school. Reagan was President.

@whowasthatmaskedman The Ancient Greeks had very little to no interest in freedom or liberty when they developed democracy.

I did too Nixon was president. As I recall it was required I wasn’t thrilled about the prospect of heading to Viet Nam but it was part of the rules. Like no stealing, no murdering, etc. I had no issue with it. @CopperCicada
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MethDozer I completely agree. Democracy was a way of spreading the power of a ruler among a few supposedly worthy people. Now lets take that thought. What does one have to do to be worthy these days?
That shift has become what one has to do to become UNworthy. Such as a criminal of some kind, or too lazy to get off your @$$ and go vote. We clearly saw in the 2016 election a lot of people didnt like the choices so much that Hillary didnt get in. By contrast in 2020 A lot of people were so offended by the possible re-elction of you know you that the turnout was huge.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@whowasthatmaskedman And you believe that, eh? Amusing
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@sunsporter1649 When that stops amusing you feel free to go back to molesting your Barbie.
@sunsporter1649 Who needs facts when you can blather on about GOP slogans from 40 years ago.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow C'mon dude, just one book to back up you're bullschiff
@sunsporter1649 Again, that would be completely wasted on you.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow As usual, you ain't got squat, just bullschiff
@sunsporter1649 Again that is your specialty.
