*Sigh. I never got on Twitter, Instagram and many others. I was on Yahoo chat so many years ago and MySpace briefly. I had a Facebook account before for a few years, but got bored with it and got off it about 5 years ago. Withdraws came for about a week, then I never looked back. So many people I talk to, praise me for being off it because it was nothing but people complaining (mostly religion and politics) and showing what color their dog's crap was.
I feel the exact same way. I kept going to Fb 'jail' for simply Sharing Posts. It wasn't a violation for them to Post it, but it was a violation for me to Share it. That's just fucked up shit.
People complain all day long about Fb's unfair and unequal so called community standards and I would reply, "Yet here we still are allowing them to bully us each day". After 15 years of being on that piece of shit site I finally listened to my own advice and deleted all my Fb accounts.
SW may not be my permanent place of residence now, but it does help me get through my Internet addiction a little by posting daily comic strips, political cartoons, and commenting on people's Posts.
I'm being as nice as I know how to be on this site, but I'm hoping later to find a site with a bit more savagery like dark memes, but not disgusting content like MeWe offers. Just something in the middle so I can get a laugh, not grossed out
@akindheart Thank you. I could have picked out word for word what you said and tore your Post to pieces, but why when I understand exactly your point and I hope something better does come our way soon.
@SmellyBot thanks for not picking me apart. i would fight back...however, this is about freedom of speech if i have not said it before...and yes i am hoping something better comes along. Did you see Telegram?
@akindheart No I haven't seen Telegram. Is it a movie on a popular streaming site? If so I subscribe to most and would have a good chance of being able to see it.
And about picking your Post apart piece by piece, I feel that's what others were doing. I think they were making your message more complicated than was meant to be. It was cut and dry for me because I've been going through this nonsense for so long I'm just glad I'm not the only one.
Don't ever try the freedom of speech site FUIMPOSTINGIT because it is total garbage. The admin of the site got jealous when girls were paying attention to me and got on my Posts and Comments and edited what I was saying to them.
Also his other admins would follow me around and delete what I was saying just to bully me. He sincerely believes the Earth is flat, so what else would you expect from an idiot like that? smh
@akindheart Well yeah they're going to say "No we only do nice things." Because they're allowed to. Free market.
This is capitalism. These huge companies have so much control over what we can say to each other and who gets to see what we say. And we let it happen because we love capitalism and the free market.
And now there are consequences. Maybe we don't like the free market so much now?
@akindheart its not public tho. its a private forum owned by a private corporation. and corporations don't mesh with the 'communism' aspect since they are the crown jewels of capitalist enterprises
@BlueVeins You are describing an oligarchy or plutocracy. True communists haven't walked the earth in 100 years.
Commune in communist describes the people running things... it never happened. Russia, China, Cuba devolved immediately into authoritarian dictatorships.
True democracy is also virtually non existent. Our representational republic avoided 1 person 1 vote out of fear of "the rabble" of the mob. Words quoted from founding fathers..
@Shpiders "If only the government would take over these huge corporations so they would instead work towards what I think is a public good, then we wouldn't have communism"
@akindheart This VERY site you are own doesnt allow freedom of speech in the way you are saying. Do me a favor and post some racist pics and all that on here or kiddy porn or cruel things to that manner and see how long it is before they ban your or delete the pictures you post.
go to ANY site and start posting things of that nature and just watch how fast you get reactions....
@SmellyBot you didn't and i am not deleting you. you are respectful. you have libs on here who would argue the time of day just to fight.oh and lets not forget the fake profiles
I wasn't really asking if you watched it that's not the point I don't watch it either. But I wanted to get at the core of what you believe. Is the only reason you don't care because you don't watch it? If you did watch it would you care?
I answered this. I said:
I don't care if they choose to broadcast those things. You have the right and the ability to not watch it, nobody is forcing you.
At this point any kid can grab his parent's iPad and with a few clicks seek out and find the most noxious videos every recorded on any subject, so pragmatically this doesn't matter to me. The barn door is wide open and the horses are long gone.
Which is why I'm personally against it. It leads to very bad things and emboldens people to commit horrible actions based on lies. I don't really object to opinions that I disagree with. But you can't really have an "opinion" on objective reality. It's the lies that I think need to be censored.
The capital riot is a prime example. It was based on lies of election fraud. And people are dead now. If there really was massive election fraud I would think very differently about it. But there didn't seem to be and all the evidence presented was lies and misrepresentations. And those people died for a lie. Fueled by bullshit spreading on social media.
So it sounds to me that I was correct, you do make exceptions for things that offend you personally. All of what you wrote here is biased and your opinion, it is not objective fact.
Look how you choose to portray this. You don't know objectively if the election was run fairly. All you know is what you were told by the media about it. You could easily be wrong. You are aghast at the violence that occurred at the Capital on 1/6 but do you care about the waves of violence that were perpetrated against the citizens of Philadelphia, Rochester, Wisconsin, and Portland that occurred last year? How about when people took over a section of Portland and declared it a Autonomous Zone? You care about the citizens that were stuck in this lawless zone for weeks being ruled by violent warlords?
@MalteseFalconPunch what i mean is that it was meant for the public, the public can use the platform as long as it fits THEIR TOS...so you have to agree with their pov.
The First amendment still protects you from Government censorship, it never entitled you to a platform.
Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from accountability for said speech either.
Besides how could you tell private companies they don't have the right to take your content down without becoming even more tyrannical than the companies who shut it down in the first place?
it's their product, they invented it. And honestly how would you feel if the government told you you couldn't kick a drifter out of your house for saying all kinds of disrespectful things about you?
Because youd esssentially be saying constitutional rights trump Property rights.
@akindheart but conservatives aren't being censored. they're being told to stop lying about the election being stolen because it incites violence. you're still free to think and spread whatever vile opinion you want, just not incite violence.
@PDXNative1986 did i bring the election up? no. My post is about freedom of speech. you can come to the conclusion that I voted for Trump and that Facebook does not support Trump but to pick and choose what we are allowed to say is wrong. As long as i am respectful, i should have the right to disagree. Did i threaten anyone? no. andI certainly didn't incite violence.
(This will probably get me band.) To me it seems like people on the left talk about how open minded they are until you don't agree with their opinion. They then get derogatory, aggressive, and threatening. There is such hypocrisy in the issues. Abortion (murdering unborn babies) yet consider the murdering of a pregnant woman two homicides. Blaming Trump for the lefts' planted rioters on the capitol building and ignoring the riots and looting in Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland and so many more. Selecting and taking out of context "facts" and twisting them. One good example, go look at the full 30 minute, unedited video of George Floyd's arrest. Include with that the full coroner's report and not just the media's hand selected sections.
They claim walls don't work. Yet they put up a wall around the capitol building. How many of them live in gated communities? Why do they require government IDs for everything involved with government access and yet requiring IDs a hardship which will prevent so many people from voting? There is so much hypocrisy here. In my opinion it is and avenue for severe election fraud.
The left is so quick to give way hard earned money to those to don't work because they are say they entitled. In my opinion it seems like they are just buying votes with our tax dollars.
There is so much hate on the side of the left. I cannot be a part of that hate.
Now watch people on the left will really blast me. That will only make my point.
just because you think it doesnt mean the private business has to let you post it. You still have freedom of speech...As a business owner i can limit what is said and what is not and if you dont like it go elsewhere. How about you go to the grocery and just start eating without paying for it as that too is freedom of speech and expression(jut in a different manner). Or or how about go in the airport and scream i got a bomb.... wooo hoooo thats freedom of speech and see where that gets you.
What FB, Twatter and Amazon are doing is not right and not healthy for America. Those air heads championing the censorship are of the same genetic strain of those that turned in friends and family to the Gestapo, the official secret police of Nazi Germany and in German-occupied Europe. My grandmother told me about those people - she was part of the resistance in Poland as a young woman. I was horrified by some of what she told us. And, I am horrified to see the frenetic support they give to censorship today.
If history really does repeat itself, how long will it be before we start killing each other?
@Budwick i have removed myself from twitter. hope i helped their stock market crash. Project Veritas is having a field day with them now. i will remove myself from parler once it comes back up and i am going on hiatus on facebook.
Should the government protect you from "corporate fascism" like it does in Communist countries?
We disagree on lots of things, but I really don't see this as Communism as much as a symptom of the difficulties we're facing with corporations becoming increasingly more relevant politically than either governments or human beings.
Today, its shunning Conservative businesses and restricting their freedom to use platforms run by private businesses, but liberals and some Conservatives have issues with Citizens United, Dark money, and how to fix these problems is troublesome for just about everyone, including even the folks who run social media and seem to want regulation at times to protect themselves and their products.
@TexChik I put it in quotes for a reason after seeing it used by someone complaining about conservative censorship. Corporate fascism really doesn't make much sense to me, but it seems less paradoxical than corporate communism, IMO, at least.
Socialist owned corps, I'm really dubious about, but I'm tired of my head hurting from Trumpist newspeak now.
Here are some things that the first amendment protection of free speech does NOT cover:
1. Freedom from the consequences of your free speech on the part of friends and employers.
2. Freedom to speak or write lies (known as slander and libel)
3. Freedom to speak in a manner that creates danger for the public ("shouting fire in a crowded theater", to paraphrase a SCOTUS decision on the topic).
4. A guaranteed right to disobey the terms of service of platforms like SW, Twitter, or Facebook.
I'm sorry you are going through this, and I don't pretend to know what you were saying or to whom. I'm not commenting on the specifics of your situation. But the first amendment protects us from legal consequences of political speech--we can't be put in prison for criticizing the government. It doesn't address the other items I've listed here.
@Harmonium1923 I think number 4 is where i am having problems. it is their site, they make the rules. you can post whatever you want as long as it is not political. i bet that is not in their TOS
Freedom of speech is something that only applies to the government. Private citizens can tell you to shut up, and private companies can stop you saying whatever they like.
You can tell me to shut up too. It's great. Nobody will arrest you for it.
Also what does communism have to do with any of that? What's communism?
@Bigwill75 Amendments can only be nullified with a vote of 3/4 of the state legislatures. That isn't going to happen for the first, second, or any amendment.
@Bigwill75 The first amendment will remain in place until 3/4 of the state legislatures vote to remove it. Which isn't going to happen. It is still in force and will remain so.
Wow, look at all these cucked idiots regurgitating their programmed propaganda...
It's a private company....they can do whatever they want....never mind that the major tech companies conspired with the incoming administration to suddenly categorize free speech as incitement to violence, then use that new designation to remove the sites that they have been telling people to migrate to all along....
I've warned several people to get any violent shit off their feeds, "they" are coming for you...
...and I don't necessarily me the Government or LEO, but private citizens, perhaps people right here in this post will eagerly and readily turn on their friends, neighbors and family for virtue signaling points. They will be doxxed, shamed, fired and maybe physically assaulted or killed...all for supporting the "wrong" candidate....something that every American should have a right to do...without consequence.
@SmellyBot Yeah this is more a lonely hearts, anonymous hookup, political site. I guess you want the latest 4Chan for whatever the really dark, twisted people congregate.
You do have freedom of speech. You do not have the right to violate a private company's Terms of Service. If they decide to remove your posts, or anyone's, even Trump's, that is within their right to do so. You can use another platform if you wish. None of this is censorship.
Posting political stuff on FB gets you unfriended by many anyway. No ones wants to hear that shit on FB. Twitter waited way too long to ban people. It really needed to happen before the Capitol riot. Parler has Russia written all over it with many Russian accounts boosting Q BS. The founder is married to a Russian. It is now hosted by a Russian company and making a come back. There are still plenty of right wing friendly sites/apps where many are fleeing to like Gab although it feels more like a circle jerk in there with just a bunch of people jizzing over Trump and Q😂 And btw...none of this is communism.
@Haniazed call it what you like. if you host a social media page, you can't testify you don't censor people and you do. whether i believe in Q and trump is my right. period. i am not on GAB, MEWE and i will be deleting Parler once it is up and running.
@akindheart will do ... did sound too much like a man
SW-User
I think private companies follow their own rules but not govt. Just like SW ban people or delete posts.
Fb bans a lot of things. I know someone got banned forv3 days for using the word twat.. Twitter is more liberal. YouTube is full of racist comments with no reign..
