The Senate were indeed the jury. And as I said, Mitch McConnell is on record saying that they would acquit Trump no matter what.

Exactly as I have said. The impeachment had to be done, but we all knew what the outcome would be.

Anyway, it doesn't matter now. The damage was done, Trump is out, and will likely be in jail by 2024 :)
