I don't really think of politics but the recent american election you wonder, is there any point to voting?

windinhishair · 61-69, M
Of course there is. If enough people don't vote, you could end up with someone totally incompetent and unfit for office, like Trump. The more people who exercise their right to vote, the less likely that is to happen.

@RightSaidFred Fine. How is it in Moscow?

A lot of people might disagree with me on this one and I'm not from the US, but the voting system seems kinda unfair to me. As far as I understand all the district votes go to the side that has majority for one state which pretty much means if the difference is like 2-4% pretty much screw the other half of people. Wouldn't it be more fair if the vote was by district? I know it'd be much more work but this way a state could vote for both candidates.

@DrSunnyTheSkeptic in some states the properties are huge so that land owner's vote would have many times the impact that someone in the city would have.

@Tastyfrzz Properties? I thought the district vote was by person, what does the amount of properties have to do with it? Or do you mean like an entire district could be occupied by less people and their vote could have a massive impact on the district

When voting for something or someone you have a chance of losing or winning. If you don’t vote then that’s one vote against whatever you actually would have wanted.
It’s still your call vote or not the election will go on.
Saying an election is rigged and quitting before it even happens can cost many more votes. Saying that it’s rigged or a fraud doesn’t make it so without proof or evidence.

Just my opinion. Get out to vote for your vote to be able to count , stay home and it won’t count. That’s guaranteed.
For years I have seen it as harm reduction but it is definitely not the way to real change for anything.

of course there is, the americans are just crap at it 👀

[big]THAT[/big] is the million dollar question . The answer is absolutely G D right there is a point to voting . If you adopt that stance you will lose everything ! 😉👍🏻

Not really. Maybe in local elections.

Not for Republicans anymore.
I never wonder about that, because the ballot is the only voice one has, other than personally running for office. And if it didn’t matter, people wouldn’t try so hard to deny the vote to certain groups in this country. It was 100 years ago this year that women here got the vote.
Every time there’s been an election here I’ve voted, because my grandmother couldn’t.

I only vote for harm reduction. The only way for actual change is direct action.

@MarmeeMarch More like an insecure nativist.

@MarmeeMarch Lol. Still desperately clinging to Trump not being responsible for anything ever. The misplaced blind hero worship at this point is just sad.
