More people will die from Cancer or Heart Disease than COVID-19 this year...
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Jimmy2016 that is true. But, covid is already the third leading cause of death in the US. Also, there are many forms of cancer and many forms of heart disease. The statistics for both are lumped so breast, prostate, lung, etc., cancers are lumped, just as all deaths associated with covid are lumped. So do you "get it" yet?
If we all work together, do the really simple thing thing of wearing a mask, we can decrease the number of cases and deaths! Decreasing heart disease and cancers is not as easy!

@samueltyler2 Even though masks do not do a damn thing to stop the kung flu virus?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@sunsporter1649 wrong again. Don't quote the only article which showed a benefit, but not statistically significant. The result of that study was even discussed in an editorial in the same issue of the same journal. Other studies show a statistically significant decrease in infection, in health care workers, best using an N95, less so with a surgical mask and less with a cloth mask. If everyone wore a mask the airborne viral load would fall appreciably, thus protecting everyone. Look at the ecological proof of that, look at percent positive rate, rate of infection, case numbers, deaths in localities with masking required and compare with those without!
So, you are totally incorrect. And, don't bother to say masks can damage you, that has been debunked as well!

@samueltyler2 Try this little experiment. Put on your mask, light a kitchen match, and tell me if you can smell the burning Sulphur
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@sunsporter1649 I will go you one better, with my N95, I cannot smell banana spray. That is how you test the efficiency of it. In the hospital setting, we are all fit tested. But, that doesn't mean that a little less efficiency doesn't help prevent the rekease of droplets from you and the breathing in of such droplets and aerosols.
You can't win this argument, the data is there to prove the usefulness. Science will trump all of your attempts to ignore it.

@samueltyler2 they say that about every form of death that it's one of the leading causes.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Punches who is the "they?" Where have you heard that? The statistics are on the CDC website!
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M
@samueltyler2 N95 Masks are good down to 3 microns. SARS-CoV-2 virus is .1 Micron in size so in a pure form, if you will, the N95 masks don't protect unless the virus is attached to body fluids. The only protective PPE is a full self contained face mask covering the entire face and attached to a oxygen tank.

@Jimmy2016 you confuse certain facts. True viral particles are smaller than 2.5 microns, but viral particles don't exist in isolation, they are attached to water vapor or droplets or on aerosols, which are blocked by N95s. My friends working in ERs wearing PAPRS prefer N95s. The data does not show enough improvement from them to make them cost effective.
