Have you lost any friends because of political differences?

I've lost several in the past few months alone, as they simply refuse to be friends with someone who is voting for a different candidate than they are. It's hurtful to know that they are willing to cut me off for a reason like that.

It is what it is.

Most of my friends are in the same broad sphere politically. I have some very very strong differences with a few of them but honestly I just don't talk politics at that point, particularly because my politics are extremely left and I think its important to not just hang out with people who agree with you.

That said, mainstream political views can include denying certain people their basic humanity.

So if someone's politics are deliberately, and maliciously harmful to innocents I'm not going to maintain a friendship with those people.

One of my oldest friends, someone I've been friends with for 40+ years spent the last 2 hours of our relationship ranting every dogwhistle from Alex Jones, Breitbart and Trump, I did try to be kind. We haven't spoken since and that was 1 year ago now. Kind of makes me sad but I could not listen to all that craziness another minute, hoping he comes to his senses someday...
I'm just not willing to be friends with someone who thinks that essentially a woman should be forced to bear a pregnancy to term and that the right to own a gun is more important than my right to be safe.

those things might seem to some people like they aren't important enough to end a friendship over but they are to me.

the people who had no problem with Donald trump mocking a disabled reporter? that is a major character flaw.

I have cut a few people out of my life over politics and I'm fine with it.

No because none of my friends are shitbag Republicans.
@DearAmbellina2113 you're doing the same thing I am. I refuse to keep them as friends.

Yep. They really weren't good friends.
We’re they ever really friends 🤷‍♂️

I haven't. Yet...

It's a pity that it's happened to you. And it's horrible that politics has become so divisive. The phrase 'divide and conquer' comes to mind.

They weren't friends if that happened.

Not friends. I lost touch with family over it.
No, I feel like if we talk politics, lets not argue.
