Trump supporters: Why do you think Trump insists on referring to COVID as "China" or "Wuhan" virus? What is the benefit which outweighs the harm?
Most of the world is calling it COVID. Why is it important to Trump to call it China virus? When you're referring to it in mixed company do you call it COVID or China virus?

In the minds of his most loyal acolytes, it shifts blame from himself to China.
Absolutely, China must be held accountable; something went devastatingly wrong and we need to understand what we can do to stop this happening again. People aren't going to magically forget where this all began, since it's had such a profound impact on all our lives.
But the idea behind using that term so frequently I feel is to mask his own incompetencies. A pandemic on this scale has been predicated for a years, in a bid to improve our prepardness. Some countries have responded better than others - the USA hasn't done so great when compared globally, and that rests squarly on is shoulders (despite Trump stating that the US was doing better than "the world" in relation to deaths per million).
But he's the true "Teflon Don", and he knows it. He can say anything, and there'll still be a portion of the US population who will support him nonetheless (i.e. people have been trying to defend his performance during the recent Axios interview, which blows my mind).
@SW-User I think you are right for his motivations.
But exactly what does China have to be held accountable for? The only way to prevent something like this is to effectively end international air travel which is a non starter. Organizations like the WHO and the CDC have been expecting something like this originating from any number of countries for years now.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow In regards to China - I think at some level there was negligence. For instance, there's a reqiurement to report a potential pandmic to the WHO within 72 hours (if I am remembering the article properly). They failed to do this, and by all account supressed the reports by people like Dr. Li Wenliang who contracted it early on.
Primarily, I think it depends on where it began - if it was a wet market, then the practices have to be addressed. Disease and hygeine concerns have long persisted around wet markets so something needs to change.
If it was an accidental leak from a lab, there's a serious issue of malpractice which needs to be addressed, perhaps with more stringent global standards for us all to adhere too.
There's a lot of unknowns and a lot up for debate. But to some degree, the Chinese government need to take accountabilty.
@SW-User Lets be real here. This is literally nothing any other country has not done and is not willing to do themselves. I mean the reason the Spanish Flu got that name was because Spain was literally the only country not denying it was happening.
The wet market thing is mostly debunked and making a big deal of it is they height of hypocrisy. Western nations can bitch about it when they close all the factory farms that are just as bad if not worse for the same reasons.
The lab leak is definitely a conspiracy theory that was totally debunked as nonsense.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow You really believe that the kung flu occurred naturally! Amazing! What page of The Little Red Book you have been reading is that printed on?
- quite the exaggeration for someone who started with "let's be real".
You say these ideas have been debunked - I'm yet to see anyone conclusively rule out any possibility, and the Chinese government’s role in trying to conceal the initial breakout appears to be fairly established.
It's not cold war rhetoric to want to hold somebody accountable if we can demonstrate there is accountability.
@SW-User Actually it is entirely about creating an excuse to justify a new cold war.
And making a big deal of the Chinese response is also more about distracting from the complete incompetence of the US government response. The only people to blame for that are the US government.
And the lab leak conspiracy theory was debunked back in about April.
