People defend Confederate landmarks under the assertion that it's a preservation and celebration of culture rather than hatred or racist ideals. What I don't understand about that is what specific culture did the Confederacy have, exactly? I know there's a lot of Southern culture. The Southern United States has a lot of unique and valued culture, history, and heritage. But the Confederacy existed for only five short years. Was there any culture that was specific to the Confederacy that needs to be kept alive?

@BlueMetalChick Thank you. Everybody screams out 'heritage' without stopping to consider for a second that they only heritage they claim is their secession to support slavery. Otherwise, the south is the same as any other part of the nation.

@MalteseFalconPunch Fun fact, up until I was fourteen years old and I learned about the American Civil War in history class, I thought the Confederate Flag was made up by Lynyrd Skynyrd because I saw it on their records and shit like that. I had no idea it actually represented anything other than Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama.

@Graylight Imagine your entire heritage being "we were racist and then we lost a war."

@MalteseFalconPunch Admirable as that may be, we might disagree on the definition of "good food" because my experiences with eating crocodile and snake in Southern states has been most unfortunate.

That being said, I love Chinese food yet I ate grilled cat in Shanghai once and it was the single most repulsive thing I've ever consumed, so maybe I just got unlucky lol

@MalteseFalconPunch Snake in my opinion is far too rubbery to be enjoyable. Then again, I eat fucking dogs so what do I know 😏
