How can republicans claim to be the party of Abraham Lincoln and defend their “confederate heritage” at the same time?

Republicans also used to be the party of big government and social reform and even spawned the "Progressive Party". Things change. Claiming to be the "party of Lincoln" is nothing more than an argument from authority fallacy.

@sunsporter1649 Yes. Though he later founded the Progressive "Bull Moose" Party and ran for president under this party in 1912.
