nope, never really done those
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
I don’t remember anyone saying any of those things.
The sole objection was to adding the question of citizenship, which likely would have resulted in an undercount.
Weird when you think of it. Trump makes all sorts of broad claims about how many so-called illegals there are, but adding that question would have likely made it more difficult to support that claim.
So, yeah.
Got anything else?

@Budwick Plus the founder is a big Planned Parenthood supporter. Nice ideological consistency. Lol

Well, I know what a fan of infanticide you are. I thought you might appreciate facts from a source you trust to demolish your argument.

@Budwick Lol. Pathetic attempt at deflecting. You are the one who puts your faith in white supremacist morons.
bowman81 · M
The left was apoplectic about adding the question "are you a US Citizen". They were afraid of losing the "non citizen" count to determine funding and representation apportionment in congress. So the question of citizenship was not on the questionnaire.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@bowman81 Sounds like you accept that there was an attempt to intentionally generate an undercount 🤔
Supreme Court agreed.

Budwick · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul
That's not accurate. The Supreme Court didn't approve of the Dept of Commerce reasons for wanting the information. In fact, they made it pretty clear they would like another stab at the case.

@Budwick Probably because it is a bullshit premise.
akindheart · 61-69, F
nope. i was surprised by the lack of questions. for us geneologists, we love details and this one didn't have it. i think it asked a few times if i was hispanic
Budwick · 70-79, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow You have a sick, perverted POV.
You should run for democrat office!

Yes.
For the life of me I can't come up with a good reason why so many Democrats were opposed to questions about citizenship. Yet they were OK with questions about race.
Like it's OK for the government to know what race we are, but not OK to know if we are here legally? Why is it so important that the government knows whether we are black, white, hispanic, asian if we are all equal?

@QuixoticSoul Considering that one of the primary reasons for the census was for determining apportionment of members of the House of Representatives and the electoral college, it would seem that there would be a valid reason for knowing whether the people being counted were or weren't US citizens. While there may be ways to estimate non-citizen counts, there is no way to determine where in the US the non-citizens are dwelling.
The result of not knowing where they reside is that states with more non-citizens would have disproportionate more representation and states with fewer non-citizens would have less representation.
Of course, fundamental to this is the question of whether non-citizens should or should't be represented in congress.

@Heartlander Seems the founders decided yes, and nobody’s tried to push through a constitutional amendment since. They were quite specific in their original wording.
Edit: I forgot the 13th and 14th amendment - but anyway, as it stands the enumeration clause is quite clear.

@Heartlander Brilliant!

Yes, I did it online, nothing in there that concerned me, but then a few days later I got another census form in the mail. lol
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I’m sure you didn’t complete the paper one with fake names etc and send it in. Went in the recycling like mine i bet. @JeanAnna
JeanAnna · F
@jackjjackson True, I didn't complete the paper form at all. Much easier online.

I don't believe the census is racist, xenophobic, genderphobic, Trump-bad.
I do find it an invasion of privacy.
Whether that's a necessary invasion of privacy... 🤷♂️

@CopperCicada Early settlers in the 1800's sometimes came here to get lost. We have a long history of people who didn't want the government to know their business. As an amateur genealogist, I can tell you they lied about their names, ages, their own bigamy, and a number of other things.
I would like to mention a song by sung by Debbie Reynolds in the movie "The Unsinkable Mollie Brown". It was called, "What was your name in the States?" In those days, the wild west was not part of the union.
Now that our entire country is, in fact, part of the union, those who refuse to fill out our census shortchange the state in which they reside for TEN YEARS!!!!
This is money for schools, roads, childcare, social welfare programs and affordable housing from the federal government...so that is why it is necessary. Books, school supplies...libraries and computers for our children...and yada yada yada.
School systems are breaking under the weight of the illegals here who don't want to let the government know they are here...just like the criminals of the old wild west...but it is their families who will suffer the most.

@4meAndyou I understand the purpose of the census. I comply.
It is still an invasion of privacy.
The open question is whether it is a necessary invasion of privacy. I can see both sides to that question.

I didn't see any of the "left" stuff you're talking about. It's usually the left that wants the census.
I did take the census though.

You have no right to know how many illegals live in your community
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@MarineBob Clearly you have never read what the constitution says about the census.

No I didn’t

Did a short one over the phone? Hopefully im done i got like a few different census things in the mail including one for us tribal members that takes longer? All it is confusing lol.

And in the 1960s the majority of white Americans couldn't figure out what Dr. King was complaining about and thought racism wasn't a thing.

Yes and I’m fine with it. It doesn’t ask for much. I thing that would, otherwise be private.
CopperCicada · M
@jackjjackson For me all that information is private. Who lives in my house and what my relationships to them are? That is about as private as it gets.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Do you have internet, cell phone, EZ pass or something similar for toll roads? @CopperCicada
CopperCicada · M
@jackjjackson Something can be an invasion of privacy, and be necessary.
That doesn’t make it less of an invasion of privacy.
It’s stupid to not call things for what they are and recognize what they are.
