I watched the whole thing tonight. He looked very surprised. I have, unbelievably, never listened to his show. I entered adulthood in liberal Massachusetts, and I remember hearing Howard Stern trash him, while I listened to the radio on my way to work...so I said to myself...hmm...sounds bad.

More recently I have heard snippets of his shows on the news, and when I learned that he had stage 4 lung cancer, I felt for him. I have a friend with stage 3B lung cancer, and he is going through hell. And please believe me...I wouldn't even wish that kind of hell on Adam Schitt who really deserves a rather hefty kick in the rear with a 200 pound boot.

At any rate, the President said that Rush Limbaugh did an incredible amount of charity work, and helped a LOT of people, and provided them with inspiration, and that was the reason for awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

I am glad. I know that Rush Limbaugh is a controversial figure, but when you know you probably have a very slim chance to live, and you know even that might not be for long, it is wonderful to have a lifetime of work so publicly appreciated. I wish I could do something similar for my friend.
@4meAndyou I saw him look surprised as well, which struck me as really odd since the award was leaked hours before and reported.

He looked sick and while I'm no fan, it was kind of sad to see him like that.

@MistyCee You obviously do not know Rush is deaf, and even if he was told, he could not know what was said
@sunsporter1649 I didn't know that. I haven't listened to him in 20 years or more. I assumed that since he was still on the radio, he must somehow keep up with the news, but I guess that may be foolish on my part.
