Is it an offence to drive on the wrong side of the road in America?

ArishMell · 70-79, M
It's probably an offence to do so without lawful reason, in any country!
ThatMusgraveWoman · 70-79, F
Not if you claim diplomatic immunity after killing somebody. That is a get-out clause apparently.
Nimbus · M
Not as such when it is obligatory to drive on the incorrect side of the road.
Gemini43 · 80-89, M
What if you killed someone whist doing so, would expect to face a court of law?
Northwest · M
If you're a diplomat, you can do whatever you want.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Northwest Oh yes, I know that. The question for your country to ask, is whether that right of immunity conferred in the 18C suits the 21C nation and world. It might within the USA but here it concerned an incident in a foreign country.
Northwest · M
@ArishMell Here's another shocker for you: this law form the basis of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which is adhered to by just about all UN members. And there's a reason for that.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Northwest Well, it does not "shock" me. I am sure the law was created for the best or reasons but it can and evidently does create very difficult problems.
TexChik · F
Wreck less driving ... failure to know the law is no excuse . Hurt someone doing that and they will put you in jail .
Gemini43 · 80-89, M
@TexChik that’s what I imagine too. Seems it’s okay for an American woman to do that in the UK and their justice system says it inappropriate to send her here to face justice.
TexChik · F
@Gemini43 was she a socialist?
Gemini43 · 80-89, M
@TexChik seems she had friends in high places. Hardly a socialist I imagine. She claimed diplomatic immunity!
Graylight · 51-55, F
Nope. We love a challenge and the adventure of nearly dying each time we're on the road.

Of course it's illegal.
