I really wonder why the Kurds have so much western sympathy. Who is behind them?

@Cierzo I believe the Kurds have been persecuted by the Turks in the Middle East since time began. The turks had actually begun a process of genocide, and the Kurds fled to the north, to Syria.
So they are not "backed" by some big mystery group. They are simply fighting to stay alive. The Turks have declared that they are terrorists.
When Assad began chemical warfare in Syria and the US was forced to step in, the Kurds saw US forces as strong allies. They wished to assist us hoping to gain our support in their centuries long fight with the Turks.

@puck61 It's not just religion. For sure religion is part of it, but it's multi faceted, and tribal. We KNOW that Africa is tribal, and that in Africa the tribes can't let go of wars and vendettas that began when in antiquity. What we often ignore is that the Arabs are the exact same way. It will never stop because hatred is not really sane, and hatred is taught from father to son.

@4meAndyou Nobody likes the Turks. You ask anyone in the neighbouring countries and they will say the worst about them. I would not say they are the nastiest of the nasty bunch, though, certainly not as long as the Saudis exist, but would love to see Istambul in Christian hands again before I die.
On the other hand, I see Erdogan loves his country more, and has more guts than 95% of Western leaders.
My point is that Kurds and Turks have been fighting for decades, and it is nobody's business but theirs. I will never understand why the west does not let all the Middle East Semites (I don't care whether they are Muslims or Jews) to kill one another if that is what they please. They have been doing it for centuries, much longer even before the Crusades.
