Its about time we looked at this story once again. But what about assault rifles in the US ?
What do you think. Are they really necessary ? I mean any gun can kill you. But these type of guns are for war mainly. It was built to destroy you from the inside out. What do you think SW.

This debate goes on endlessly. Assault rifles manufactured after May 1986 are banned. Those manufactured prior to that date are heavily restricted. The firearms you are addressing do not have select fire capabilities. They are semi-automatic, and most people know this. And most firearms owned are semi-auto.

What is it about an AR-15 that makes it more lethal than any other semi-automatic firearm? Hint: it's not.

The truth is we are really talking about cattle-pen style shootings. A monster with a firearm going into what is most likely a gun free zone, that is crowded and where escape is limited. The Virginia Tech shooter used a Glock 9mm handgun and 10 round magazines. The Columbine shooter used an assault weapons ban compliant Highpoint 995...wood stock rifle with 10 round magazines. Magazine swaps take 2-3 seconds. None of this limits the carnage.

If anyone truly believes that banning semi-automatic rifles based on how they look or that limiting magazine capacities will somehow stop cattle-pen shootings, or miraculously reduce casualities, you are kidding yourself.

If you told me you wanted to ban all semi-automatics, that would be a little more logical, though there is little chance it would happen. Not without a fight in the SCOTUS, and given precident set in both Miller and McDonald.

As one person commented, we had an AWB before. That is true. It ran from 1994-2004. The result? No measurable affect on gun violence. In fact, after the AWB lapsed in 2004, gun violence continued to decline. Why would we reimplement a failed policy?

It's pretty basic. The people who hate guns are insisting that others shouldn't have them either. It's ironically similar to the abortion debate. There are those who hate abortions and want to dictate that others can't have them. And those who want abortion to remain legal say that no one has the right to tell a woman what she can and cannot do to her body.

Gun owners do not need to justify ownership. The SCOTUS has decided that firearm ownership is protected for those guns that are common and not usually dangerous. The AR-15 is very common and no more dangerous than any other semi-automatic.

@sunsporter1649 I'm used to it. I've been fighting for gun rights for over 20 years.
