And how are voter ID laws racist?

Oh wait, they're not.

Actually a good number of those, you don't need an ID for. Buying a gun, picking up a prescription, renting a hotel room, gambling, adopting a pet ...

@Pherick buying a Gun from a store yes, individual no depending on the state, provided it is a legsl purchase. Prescription any controlled narcotic yes (I used to have to show my ID and exes ID to pick her prescriptions up. Every hotel I have ever stayed in they required ID regardless of cash or card. Gambling depends on where. Adopting a pet, from an individual who breeds no. From a shelter yep, from pet rescues, yep (I'm involved in pet rescue)

@Scubaguy027 I have picked up narcotics from a pharmacy without ID, though I did walk in with the prescription in my hand, but all my normal prescriptions, I never show ID.

Maybe its because my office usually books my hotel? I never show ID, just the CC I booked with.

Gambling, I have never needed ID, walk-in, put money into a machine or on a table, never been asked for ID.

@Pherick normal prescriptions usually the same for me. A narcotic they screwed up by not asking, that's required by law (I only know that because my ex wife has a friend who is a pharmacy tech for Walgreens)

Hotels, I've always had to show even when it was travel for the Navy so who knows, maybe it's just where I've stayed.

Gambling I've been asked BUT it was also a "Navy" town in Nevada so that may have been more to do with keeping minors from getting free drinks so who knows.

I'm just pointing out my personal experiences, not arguing with you. There's enough of that here on trollish posts as it is.

@Pherick I sold guns for three years at a shop. you need two forms of picture ID one of which has to be a state issued gun permit. It varies by state but in most you need beaucoup ID
Pherick · 41-45, M
@redredred In PA, you can do a private sale with no ID needed.

private sales are a tiny portion of firearms transfers. For that matter one can steal one without an ID.@Pherick

@Scubaguy027
individual no depending on the state, provided it is a legsl purchase
Without an ID or a background check requirement, the only way you know anything is an illegal purchase is if you already know that person is not allowed to buy the weapon prior to the interaction.

It’s a pretty goofy setup.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@redredred True, but the argument was "what can you do without an ID, legally". and you can, buy a gun legally without ID. Thats perhaps a small fraction of gun sales, but it can happen.

Thats my only point.

@Pherick I prefer to limit discussion to significant elements of the discussion.

@redredred I just dislike memes that oversimplify.
