The census wasn't and isn't about actual details of the people is gets info from. Yes, of course, it gets their names and info, but that information is anonymized and used in a vast number of ways, all kinds of policymaking decisions.

Its hard enough to get people to take the census, why would you make it harder but adding questions people feel like could be used against them?

@jetpack Illegals don't vote. However the census isn't used for JUST voting areas, its used in a VAST array of thing, many policy decisions, we NEED it to be accurate. I don't give a fuck if my neighbor is illegal, if he lives next to me, is a part of the community, he needs to be recorded on the census.
