Patti Davis: “Dear Republicans: Stop using my father, Ronald Reagan, to justify your silence on Trump”

Ronald Reagan’s daughter says her father would be ‘horrified’ by Trump’s presidency. She said she believes the Republican Party today “bears no resemblance to the Republican Party of my father’s time.” Davis cited what she considers examples: “How about the crickets when Trump keeps assaulting the Constitution?” Republicans in this government, she said, are “just sitting by the sidelines and letting the Trump administration destroy this country.”

Agree or disagree with Ms. Davis?

Aren't Democrats doing that? They are destroying this country. Just look at California. That doesn't represent democracy. The far left has taken control and it no longer stands for what democracy did before.
xRedx · M
@calnative sure, yet you're the misinformed liberal that probably lives off handouts. Go back to your tent
Budwick · 70-79, M
@calnative Be careful driving there Inept.
You know you drive crazy when you're upset and angry.
xRedx · M
@Budwick I think he's riding the short bus lmao
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Isn’t this the same daughter who had opposing views of what her father was doing as president?
Of course. That would be omitted in this hit piece.. guess the Russian thing didn’t work out 😏👌@cherokeepatti
Platoscave · F
@cherokeepatti Yeah, so this is no mindless fluke (like most mindless crap here), she actually has some integrity
Budwick · 70-79, M
I have mixed feelings.

I don't think Reagan would be horrified.
Trump and Reagan certainly have different technique and style, but their politics are pretty much the same.

Trump has not assaulted the Constitution.

I do agree somewhat with " Republicans in this government, she said, are “just sitting by the sidelines" With noted exceptions - that is true.
Abrienda · 26-30, F
@calnative So it IS true! I thought so!😭

@calnative Wow! A BAG over my face! I am CRUSHED! What genius! Gee...what...ah...high-school level of a comeback! Congratulations...you are "inept" in more ways than one! 😂

Actually, being old enough to have voted for Ronald Reagan, I think Reagan would have liked Trump very much. No, the Republican Party does not look anything like the Republican Party of Reagan's time, which is why someone like Trump was needed. He isn't getting impeached, he isn't resigning, and he very likely may be elected for a second term.

Patty Davis, did nothing but fight with her father in her adult life. I think Patty Davis doesn't like Trump, knows her father would have, and that's just one more thing for her to be pissed off at Daddy for.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Is this the same "daughter" who spent years as the "estranged" daughter of President Reagan? The same "daughter" who publicly criticized President Reagan throughout his years in office?

:) I have to suggest that somewhere in her motive to reconciliate with dad there's a financial component. Like "Oh-Oh! Maybe I'll be left out of his will". Or maybe she's just another liberal malcontent.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Heartlander you captured exactly what i wanted to say...that is her!! she was a public joke and embarassment
Abrienda · 26-30, F
@akindheart And continues. Does she think she is "honoring" her father's memory by using him to attack the political party he was devoted and to which she is not herself a member?
kentex35 · 100+, M
Everyone is just sitting and watching. Although reagonomics got me a15.5 % mortgage and the 911 administration wiped out my sons' trust funds,I have to admit Trump has stooped to purely being self pleasing without any regard to the public needs. As if he was voted to be the new owner of America as opposed to being voted to s serve his country and working for us. Just my opinion.
Platoscave · F
@kentex35 just mine too
Carla · 61-69, F
@Platoscave ditto
Platoscave · F
wake up everyone, this really is shocking since Reagan started this latest phase of fascism here....yup.

call someone write someone and speak out loudly

this is it 4 democracy, last gasp city

and please don't dismiss me here cause I am no superstar member on sw
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Platoscave I think we are fast approaching a tipping point after Barr's little performance on Wednesday. Either the US is a country of laws or Trump has ushered in a new lawlessness from which there will be no going back.
Platoscave · F
@RodionRomanovitch I am afraid you are right Peza
akindheart · 61-69, F
meanwhile thislady put her parents thru hell. I didn't nor would i read the story.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Abrienda i would have to check. once he passed, i stopped watching. I will make a pilgrimage to his grave one day.
Platoscave · F
@akindheart He is very much NOT respected by my tribe.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Platoscave he is very much respected by mine. we will agree to disagree. Who is your tribe btw?

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout he doesn't attack the constitution. But all these liberal fruitcakes think it's like that because they don't like what they're hearing. Just like with ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. It is disgusting seeing our president being attacked and labeled because he wants to uphold the law. These people will burn our country to the ground.
TexChik · F
Disagree. What assaults to the constitution? Regan was also very bad at dealing with immigration. I personally and professionally see that the constitution is in much better hands with Trump in office . He is all that stands between us and the socialist / globalist destruction of this country.
xRedx · M
@TexChik exactly. It is disgusting seeing our president being attacked and ridiculed because they don't agree with the laws. Look at the Democrats and liberals, calling him racist and fascist because he wants to uphold the law. This is ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.
Abrienda · 26-30, F
@akindheart Yes but you see what I mean...what a little punk.

Did you know the Bishop of Krakpw holds mass for the soul of Ronnie Reagan (what my father always called him) on the anniversary of his death? The masses were perscribed "in perpeptuum." That's what I want to attend.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Abrienda Wow...he is really revered. what an honor. I have not been to Krakow yet
Abrienda · 26-30, F
@akindheart There is also a Ronald Reagan square in Krakow, streets named after him in Slovakia and Czech Republic but it the Poles who as usual do things at the proper level. I remember one night at my gf's pub a very good looking Polish guy and a Romanian were arguing in German over Reagan and Gorbachov and though I don't speak the language Nika does and she was laughing when the Pole would say something about Reagan and would translate. I do remember the Pole listening to the Romanian and pointing at him cigarette between two fingers saying "Nein, nein, Reagan ist der einzige Mann!" again and again, which even I could figure out meant. "No, no, Reagan is the only man!"

On my request Nika tore up his bill!
Abrienda · 26-30, F
My reply to Miss Reagan? Sorry, bitch. You don't "own" your father's memory, a memory you have attacked and insulted the since the day he died by saying he had an "unhealthy" relationship with Nancy and who you opposed and made fun of including his wife when they were alive AND after their death.

What a vampire, getting attention now by bringing up the memory of her father ONLY whom she mocked and opposed when he was alive but now tries to "copyright" his memory now that he is dead... Nor is Trump the first Republican leader she has treated to this sort of "argument."

She is a disgusting, loathsome creature who, when the Cardinal of Krakow announced the cathedral would hold yearly services for his soul on the anniversary of his death wrote a snarky letter in which she said her father wasn't Catholic "so what are you bothering?" Nice.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
I agree. Reagan was a patriot and a true republican. Although I was appalled at some of his deregulation and tax breaks for the rich. I was more a Kennedy era type. Thats what actually made America great.
Platoscave · F
@whowasthatmaskedman Reagan ended protection for the poorest children in America and destroyed the Trade Union movement for good and launched the new world order and the lowest wages since the late sixties and the most despair since the middle of the depression. Ignored climate change. Abused civil rights everywhere. Remember SAMOZA and RIOS MONTE? Well its all back in spades since REAGAN.
kentex35 · 100+, M
@Platoscave finally someone with an IQ and 2 eyes.
Powderflask · 31-35, M
I'd still vote trump.
TexChik · F
@Powderflask yep me too
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
She is quite correct in saying
“bears no resemblance to the Republican Party of my father’s time.”
My in-laws (staunch Republicans who voted for him) would also be appalled.
Platoscave · F
@DeWayfarer TY DW
TexChik · F
But ... she’s not Reagan is she ? Reagan would have applauded Trump for doing what he was afraid to do
SWMae · 26-30, F
@TexChik Delusional, much?
TexChik · F
@SWMae pfft Tards always put words in people’s mouths that were never there

RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
It's the Party of Trump now .... they are all in the gutter with him.
Abrienda · 26-30, F
So what? She doesn't own her father's memory.
the only part of her comment that I'll comment on is this:

Ronald Regan was a public person so family doesn't have the sole rights to say who can comment on what he may or may not believe.

What if George Washington XXIII (a direct descendant of the first prez) said "hey don't talk about great..great...Granddaddy? would he have the right?

That being said, I don't really base my viewpoints based on what a famous politician says. Hopefully it will be based on the quality of the position - not which famous person said what.
This is why people stop coming to SW
TexChik · F
@Quoththeraven the politics ? Yes . Completely unnecessary subjective post .
kentex35 · 100+, M
talk about the pot calling the kettle black. That guy about killed blue collar workers . He's the one that told Mexico
"Mi casa et su casa"(My house is your house) come on over.
Northwest · M
The GOP morphed, in record time, into the Trump party. Or perhaps I should say that the Tea Party absorbed the GOP.
RylanTheHusker · 26-30, M
As a liberal here, I see no direct assault on the Constitution by Trump. 🤷‍♂️
TexChik · F
@RylanTheHusker Aren’t you the odd duck , liberally speaking ? 😉
RylanTheHusker · 26-30, M
@TexChik Well, sometimes.
Platoscave · F
Even when "it" WAS about the Russians a few decades ago, it was STILL ALWAYS about us.

Yup..
