you never hear people complaining about having universal healthcare or a livable minimum wage.

@blindbob You do in the Republican party.

@blindbob yep, you never do hear people talk about social welfare (not the same as socialism by the way)

@blindbob Have you ever visited Canada? We constantly complain about our dysfunctional 'universal healthcare'. I have had family members die on the waiting list for treatment.

@hippyjoe1955 every canadian i know hates their universal healthcare until they cross the border and see what it's actually like living without universal healthcare. there's a reason why universal healthcare hasn't been voted out.

@blindbob Except of course those who have money or insurance here in Canada who go to the US for life saving treatment. I have family members who died on the Canadian wait list and I have family members whose life was extended because they had the money to go to the US for treatment. Similar disease. Very different results.

@hippyjoe1955 i have friends who died in the emergency room while their insurance was being sorted out. i have other friends who were dumped on the street after their insurance ran out. so...

@blindbob So where are all the innovations we take for granted coming from? Not Canada.

@hippyjoe1955 have you ever had to sort through insurance while your loved one is ODing from a suicide attempt?; have you ever had your lifesaving cancer drugs go up by 1000%? have you ever had to fundraise for sickle cell treatment while you're in the middle of a relapse?

@blindbob Have you ever had to watch your elderly mother in law lie on a gurney in the hall way for almost a week with a broken hip while the hospital waits for a bed to open up so they can set the bone? I have.

There are a lot of money for research in the USA you are right, but many of the top scientists are coming here from western countries to teach at universities for a few years and then go back to their homes in Europe. The people who want to stay are mostly from poor countries because it is better than their own countries like Mexico, south America, Africa, and Asia.@hippyjoe1955

@blindbob See this is something unheard of in most of civilized countries. Why Americans allow this is hard to understand.
