Good riddance
gol979 · 41-45, M
@jackjjackson why so?
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
The voters voted for Brexit and the politicians are liars.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@jackjjackson yes there was a majority for brexit but not a no deal. Even the government's and the rabid right wingers who are pushing no deal, economic projections are a shrinking economy.......but they refuse to acknowledge that and still singing the song that everything will be better, when what they want is a tax haven and reduced workers, environmental rights and deregulation.I
To be fair, I would say that no deal will be pretty bad but it would be a stop gap until new trade deals are signed. Problem with that is the Tories would make it a corporate wet dream at the expense of the people
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Presently you have a bad deal and bad new deals in the table. The public voted to get out of the EU. The failure to honor the vote is tantamount to a government takeover.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@jackjjackson so even if it's damaging to the majority of the country we just like in with the hardest of brexits? That's just madness.
I'm not saying that staying in the EU is the answer, I have serious misgivings about the EU and the neoliberal/austerity economic policies it has forced upon certain countries, but the way Labour is approaching this seems to be very sensible
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
So you’re of the father knows best mentality. If I was a British citizen I would move to to a country where the rule of law is honored. @gol979
gol979 · 41-45, M
@jackjjackson do you know Labour's policy on brexit?
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Yep. Burnsie has explained it all ad nauseum. What was the date of the Brexit vote BTW? @gol979
gol979 · 41-45, M
@jackjjackson June 2016
gol979 · 41-45, M
@jackjjackson I think you more.than likely know that......it was a good pass 😉
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
So you are coming up on three years and the vote has not be honored? You’ve been totally disrespected as a nation. @gol979
gol979 · 41-45, M
@jackjjackson it's followed the rules. The Tories have to hold the can for.that. No negotiation, refusing to release legal documentation on their proposed deal, assuming executive power, pulling out of votes 2 hours before they're due because they know they will lose, consistently push the time frame back. Unfortunately it seems like we arw.going to need an extension as there is nowhere near enough time to do what's needed. All the Tories fault
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
You’re missing the big picture. The politicians have completed a coup and they dont give a rat’s ass what the voters vote on. @gol979
gol979 · 41-45, M
@jackjjackson I'm not. There's no nuance in the referendum question and now we have the Tories playing party politics rather than try and unite the country.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M

@jackjjackson "The voters voted for Brexit and the politicians are liars."

One of the main reasons given for leaving, by the seven Labour MP's, is the inactivity by Jeremy Corbyn (and the Labour Party as a whole) on the issue of Brexit.

At least these seven want to actually do something about it.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Not sure leaving in protest is doing anything about it is it? @room101
room101 · 51-55, M
@jackjjackson They have left the Labour Party. Not politics. They are still MP's representing their constituencies in the House of Commons as independents. So yes, they can still get involved and act and vote on the issue of Brexit.

There is something else that you seem to be missing. We are leaving the EU on 29th March 2019. That has been the case since Theresa May triggered Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union in March 2017. That's what the British public narrowly voted for, that's what is happening.

Sure, there are quite a number of politicians, political pundits and, members of the public who want a delay or a second vote or a cancellation. BUT, unless something drastic happens in the next six plus weeks, we are leaving the EU. Ergo, what was voted for IS WHAT IS HAPPENING.

That's not the point. That's not what all the furore is about. It's about HOW we leave the EU. These MP's have resigned from the Labour Party partly because the Labour Party under Corbyn has done absolutely nothing but bleat on about what we've already got, what we can't possibly have and, a General Election.

Want to know what a General Election does for Brexit? I'll tell you. ABSOLUTELY SOD ALL!
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
It does seem a little late I’m the process to change course. It seems as though the politicians have made what you might call a bollocks of the whole thing? @room101
room101 · 51-55, M
@jackjjackson In many respects, the politicians have indeed made a bollocks of the whole thing.

But, you have said a number of times in various discussions on this topic that, the politicians are not honouring what the people voted for. I even recall you using the word "treason".

That's patently untrue. Approx 52% of the British public voted for the UK to leave the EU. For good or for ill, we are leaving the EU.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I’ve been disappointed in the efforts by the politicians to have a do over. @room101
room101 · 51-55, M
@jackjjackson Certain MP's wanting a "do over" is not the same as MP's not honouring what people voted for.

Even though I voted to remain in the EU, I do not agree with a second referendum.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Perhaps I was hard on them. @room101
room101 · 51-55, M
@jackjjackson Or perhaps you didn't fully understand what has actually been happening over here. Even in the UK, there's many who don't.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@room101 you said these 7 are going to do something about it. What exactly are they going to do?
