Gee, I wonder what President Trump will be announcing on 1/19/19 at 3PM EST?

Can you imagine?

We know it will involve the "Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border.”

The one that didn't exist until the Democrats controlled the House.

I wonder how he'll spin it given that the one of the largest groups of immigrants to ever enter en masse did it by going UNDER a wall.

Or that the children separated from their parents at the border has turned out to be FAR greater than what we were initially told.

The humanitarian crisis angle is the one I don't get. Not only does that man have ZERO empathy for humanity, it's clear his supporters would rather have the brown marauders die in the desert or shot on sight at the border. I don't know who the hell he's talking to with that bullshit.

@Ynotisay Hmmm. I guessing from your comment you're not a Trump fan, not really a fan of secure borders and probably watch a lot of CNN. I'm also pretty certain you don't live near the USA/Mexico border.

But, it doesn't matter. It's your opinion, not necessarily reality.

Thank you for expressing it!

@Jocco Damn. The block button again. Oh well. Sometimes a guy's just got to drain his swamp if he does't want to swim in it

MAGA Comrade.

(Side note. I've lived, in the Southwest, amidst first generation Hispanic immigrants most of my adult life. And the men, women and children I've encountered are FAR more impressive than any MAGA I could imagine).
Jocco · 56-60, M
@Ynotisay Wait, I never said immigrants are bad. I just asked a question and then cast judgment on you based on your answers.

I am the dependent of immigrants. They passed through Ellis Island.

They had to have money or sponsors, had to pass health exams, had to be "vetted" to the best of 1903's standards.

Not sure why that's changed......

Are you?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Jocco From your comment...

1. You don't live anywhere near the border because those who do who would lose part of their land are in favor of border security, but not a politically motivated wall.

2. Out of a combination of convenience and laziness you believe whatever the gutless and failing Baby-trump tells you despite what you can see and read for yourself.

3. In a pinch, you will also blindly accept whatever Sarah Huckabee-Sanders says.

4. You're scared to death of imaginary caravans and prayer rugs.

5. At most you have completed high school.
@Jocco No, these are all facts, a matter of record: Trump didn’t start making demands for the 5 billion while the GOP held the house. That’s when he was saying Mexico would pay for it, remember ? And there are more children who were separated from their parents than originally reported. If they’re so proud of having done that, why isn’t Trump bragging about it anymore ? 🤔
Jocco · 56-60, M
@MarkPaul yeah......you're not very good at soothsaying. Finish school, move out of mom and dad's basement and get a job. Just an FYI, I did finish Hi Scool!
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Jocco I rest my case.
Jocco · 56-60, M
@MarkPaul yey!
@Jocco “Hi scool” ? Alrighty, then.
Jocco · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard LOL sucker!
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Jocco Oki.
Jocco · 56-60, M
@MarkPaul Well done!
@Jocco No facts to contribute ? Of course not. Bye, troll. 😅
Jocco · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard Well, Im not sure what facts you want me to contribute.

I have my opinion. That opinion is that we need secure sovergn borders. We had then when we opened our country for refugees in ww2 and during other international crises.

Why should I roll over and agree with you that open and free flowing borders are better and safer than controlled entry borders?

Why am I such a bad person? Why am I suddenly stupid? What made you believe that open and unsecured borders are smart, good for the economy, contribute to our tax income, don't impact crime?

I mean, what made you superior to me in that opinion?

How can you possibly say an open border is the wise choice?
@Jocco You didn’t read anywhere that I said that. But Trump did claim that Mexico would pay for it—right ? So why does he have his hand out ? And why has he shut down the government after claiming only a weak president does that ? Rather than projecting what you think I’m saying, why not read the actual words ?

Things were pretty loose in 1903, except for the anti-Chinese discrimination. If we adopted that style system again, our problems with illegal immigration would evaporate overnight.

But in 1920s the quota system went into play which was pretty shit all around, and eventually contributed heftily to the holocaust.
Jocco · 56-60, M
@QuixoticSoul Wait, did you just say that Ellis Island or any of its policies contributed to the Holocaust?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Jocco No. The Emergency Quota Act did that.
Jocco · 56-60, M
@QuixoticSoul https://history.state.gov/milestones/1921-1936/immigration-act

There's the historical perspective on that act. Not sure how you can conclude that such an act contributed to the Holocaust. Thats rather disturbing to me.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Jocco Yeah I know the historical perspective. It was a dick move.

Why is that disturbing? The limit of 25k for both Germany and Austria combined, and even more restrictive ones for Eastern/Central Europe made it difficult for many people to leave.

As the refugee crisis began in 1938, growing competition for a finite number of visas, affidavits, and travel options made immigration even more difficult. In June 1938, 139,163 people were on the waiting list for the German quota. One year later, in June 1939, the waiting list length had jumped to 309,782. A potential immigrant from Hungary applying in 1939 faced a nearly forty-year wait to immigrate to the United States.

In quota year 1939, the German quota was completely filled for the first time since 1930, with 27,370 people receiving visas. In quota year 1940, 27,355 people received visas.

...

Between 1938 and 1941, 123,868 self-identified Jewish refugees immigrated to the United States. Many hundreds of thousands more had applied at American consulates in Europe, but were unable to immigrate. Many of them were trapped in Nazi-occupied territory and murdered in the Holocaust.
@Jocco
"Another change to the quota altered the basis of the quota calculations. The quota had been based on the number of people born outside of the United States, or the number of immigrants in the United States. The new law traced the origins of the whole of the U.S. population, including natural-born citizens. The new quota calculations included large numbers of people of British descent whose families had long resided in the United States. As a result, the percentage of visas available to individuals from the British Isles and Western Europe increased, but newer immigration from other areas like Southern and Eastern Europe was limited."

As a result, fewer Jewish people were able to emigrate here in the days when many were trying to escape increasing anti-semitism and the rise of the Nazis.
Jocco · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard And now it's our fault. We are such a bad country.

We are PITIFUL.

You do hate us.
Jocco · 56-60, M
@QuixoticSoul A dick move?

Ok, you've got your cuddled up story on how the USA contributed to the es termination of Jews in WW2.

Why would you even draw that conclusion - unless you need to make America look bad.

Have you come out of the basement lately?

What a weird response. Acknowledging past or present mistakes doesn't mean you hate the country - and glossing over all its warts doesn't mean you love it more. History is history, those laws and quotas are a matter of record. The conclusion is inescapable, unless you want to close your eyes and pretend we were always angels. It is what it is.

Besides, I thought you were fine with the 1903 system. Let's bring it back.
Jocco · 56-60, M
@QuixoticSoul Im here as a result of that system. Much to your chagrin.
