Trump pulling troops out of the middle east. No matter your political affiliation, surely thats a positive move?

If pulling half the troops from Afghanistan triples the danger to those remaining, I could not see that as a positive move.

@hlpflwthat the answer to that is to put more troops in then? Or just stay forever? War = peace

@gol979 Not at all. Need I remind you we are talking about actual human beings who number nearly 15,000? I don't see anything wrong with devising a planned withdrawal - rather than blindsiding commanders with announcements meant to bolster public opinion.

I have soldiers in my life - and I love them. I'd be happy to see them all home permanently. I'd be happier still to never send them off on another fool's errand like Afghanistan or Iraq. I just want to see that happen orderly & safely. Our soldiers deserve that.

@hlpflwthat fair point and well made. Looks like I was being facetious 👍

@gol979 All good here - I think we're both on same side of this one, really.

I just don't think the president has a clue what announcements like this do to young hearts & families, especially this time of year. If you truly support our troops, you don't fuck with their hopes & dreams. Especially at Christmas.

I've watched this president insult a Gold Star family and trivialize the 5+ years John McCain and others spent as POWs. He has a history of gutless armchair-quarterbacking previous administrations for their decisions as CIC. I can think of no other president in my lifetime who has been so out of touch and unconcerned for members of our military - past or present.
