Trump pulling troops out of the middle east. No matter your political affiliation, surely thats a positive move?

I don't think so, really, at least the way its being done, with the protest of the Secretary of Defense and with no signs of actual contemplation of the consequences for the U.S. and her allies.

Trump might well be making the right move, but I've never been convinced that he's smarter than the generals or that his gut level feelings are a substitute for an actual studied analysis of a situation with actual factual briefings by professionals who've made their careers out of this kind of thing. This doesn't even look like a scenario where he considered their advice and looked at things and then came to his own decision. It smells more like he just got petulant and said "f-ck it, I need to do something now, and this looks good."

@MistyCee whats bad is as long as u are a us born citizen you can run for president. so i think the qualifications for president need to change personally. i dont see trump as a bad person but hes treatong the presidency as if its a business.

@MistyCee the generals are just managers for the !military industrial complex. If a general even hinted at diplomatic resolutions then they wouldn't be a general for long
@ThatDLguy 🤔 I'm not sure that changing the qualifications for being President would really be the best solution to the problem, tbh. Changing the Constitution is really hard, and I don't think we've got much consensus regarding what better qualifications there should be, if any.

Personally, I don't think the problem is just that Trump has no experience other than in business and entertainment. I think the problems with him run far deeper, but I also sort of do think, as people go, Trump is pretty bad. This is not a guy who's sucessfully run legitimate busineses, or even had to report to a Board of Directprs. To put it charitably, he seems to be more of a promoter than a manager.

@MistyCee i get it. i wasnt sure obama was the right choice for president either. but his poresidency turned out ok so im just hoping somthing switches on for trump that makes it at elast a decent presidency for another 2 years. at least until the elction comes up
@gol979 That's pretty cynical, at least for generals that move up to positions like Secretary of Defense. But the problem is still there when you don't accept input from career diplomats either.

@MistyCee it is cynical but based on evidence. Just look what happened when trumpkins even suggested that he may reduce military spending by a paltry (relatively) $30 billion (military budget is a disgusting $718 billion). The generals came out apoplectic, saying it would be a disaster for america. They got their way, not surprisingly, now the 2019 military budget is $750 billion. Pure insanity
@gol979 Sure, but the bias of folks in one department wanting more funding, or even wanting less funding for another department like the State Department is not a big deal really, and should just be seen as part of the normal process.

The problem here really seems to be that POTUS doesn't seem to respect that process, and find and keep people to work within it.

Saying he's a businessman misses the point. Some CEOs work with structured management, incorporate the advice of department heads, and delegate effectively.
