I don't think democracy itself, or even the Republic is in imminent peril yet, but we're far from done, and I think things are going to get far uglier as long as Trump is in office.
We'll see, when the subpoenas start coming out, when Mueller issues more indictments and a report, how he reacts, and how Congress and the courts react.

@MistyCee I think that both democracy and the Republic are in imminent danger. Bypassing democracy has been his trademark, starting with his win.
Yesterday, he said he was canceling NAFTA, to make sure that the House has no choice but vote yes on whatever he wants to replace it with. USMCA? The House does not have enough votes to override a Presidential veto.

No indictments have anything to do with campaign activity. He will report, get paid, pack up and that will be it other than indicting a few more small fish for noncampaign activities. @MistyCee
@jackjjackson We'll see. I still think we'll see more indictments on Russia and the campaign, including Don, Jr, but the "obstruction" actually concerns me more in the long run as far as legacy of the administration.
If Trump doesn't shut down Mueller, pardon his people, etc, he should be able to finish out his term and we all move forward.

I think your last sentiment will come true. I don’t think a few pardons will hurt. All president’s pardon. @MistyCee
@jackjjackson I hope that's the way it comes down.
Pardons like Arpaio and Libby are really not that big of a deal, but pardoning people for crimes that benefit the President directly, especially self pardons or pardons to the President's own family really do threaten the legitimacy of the Presidency and the long term stability of the government.
If Trump's amorality, self interest and unbridled tolerance for unethical conduct in pursuit of Trump is just a one off, its a shame, but in the long run, the damage is minimal, sort of like Clinton and Lewinsky.
But if the precedent gets set that the President is above the law and the use of pardon power becomes an acceptable means of self protection, it's going to hurt us a lot more.

@MistyCee Keeping hearing about these investigations ever sence the election - must be one hell of an investigation.
@MarmeeMarch Compared to Watergate or Whitewater, the Mueller investigation seems like a baby at this point, tbh.
Of course, I'm kind of hoping its over before it hits puberty as well.
