Is Anonymous saving the country or thwarting democracy?

He/she seems to argue both that the internal resistance is saving a conservative agenda from Trump's ill-informed populism and that it is saving America from a dangerous infant with nuclear weapons.

Anonymous seems to make no distinction between the two motivations. But the first is a subversion of democracy. It certainly makes Anonymous a coward, at best.

The second denotes a massive failure of the political class, and especially the Republican Party as an institution. And it makes Anonymous the best among cowards.

Informants are rarely upstanding citizens with no criminal connections and spotless records.

@MistyCee True.

But character and motivation aside, I'm more perplexed that isn't clear what Deep State Throat thinks he/she is informing on: an anti-democratic coup of which he/she is a part; or a complete and thorough failure of leadership in both the executive that the "Steady State" is trying to cope with as it deals with Trump.
@WoodyAq I'd say more of the latter, but you're right, it's more like he's trying to stay undercover and telling the public, "we guy this, don't worry we'll do what we can to keep really bad stuff from happening."

It really is bizarre, but it might work for the Republicans some in the midterms, which seems like the most obvious motive for speaking out like this.
WoodyAq · M
@MistyCee Yeah. I agree.

But I worry about the Republican establishment outsmarting themselves...
@WoodyAq I hear you, but honestly, I think even the Republicans in Congress get that they can't keep this up for the full four years without screwing everything up beyond repair.

They got taxes and two justices, and they'll continue to get regulations, but to get anything else big done in Congress is getting harder and harder, including dealing with Mueller.

Assuming what Mueller comes up with just a non flattering report on Trump,
there'll be an uproar and fights over releasing it, or pieces of it, or dueling memos, etc.

Republicans in Congress are not in a pretty spot, between their own constituents, democrats and Trump himself, who's making just protecting him hard.

They might be better off not being alone on the hot seat with Trump and only the hardest core of his supporters behind them.

My latest theory is that the power brokers know the Mueller thing won’t impact the President who will skate. So they next go with the NYT anonymous thing and the Woodward book. The President skated on the other books and the blatant and too obvious frauds by Booker and Harris during the Kavanaugh hearing disrupted any traction the NYT anonymous thing may have had. Plus the Kavanaugh hearings will Help the republicans in the midterms. Crazily the President is Teflon like they have been saying all along. Once he survived the first two months it may be thst he survives eight years. Stunning. @WoodyAq @MistyCee

@jackjjackson I don't think Trump can avoid Mueller... Trump is already an unindicted co-conspirator on a secondary issue, and is guilty of obstruction on the main issue. The only thing saving him from indictment is a presumption of presidential immunity.

So it isn't what Mueller has, or what is legal or good for the country, but whether the Republicans can get away with blowing up the constitution.

They may succeed, but the costs to the country in the long term will be huge.

I’m buckled up to see how this goes. How about you? @WoodyAq
WoodyAq · M
@jackjjackson White-knuckled, actually.

Pretty convinced that we are at a crossroads.

Not reassured that I see a lot of people doing the wrong things for the wrong reasons. Or at least, not doing the right thing.

The misdeeds of Booker and Harris this past week shockingly overshadowed it. These are the times in which we live. @WoodyAq

I’m more of a not a leftie. @HerKing
HerKing · 61-69, M
@jackjjackson How do you define a lefty?
WoodyAq · M
@jackjjackson I don't think the fairly typical and par for the course political antics of a few senators can shadow the unprecedented gross unfitness of a POTUS.

The right wing pundiocrisy is no doubt trying to spin it as such, but ... nope, sorry.

@WoodyAq I remember the moral outrage when Obama wore a tan suit. Can you imagine the apoplexy if Obama had fucked a porn star a few months after the birth of one of his daughters? I wonder what Pence might have said? That upstanding god fearin pillar of morality.
