So ANTIFA....opinions?

I mean I'm sure everyone has opinions about them...I have opinions myself of course.

They are after all a very controversial group as of recent.

The fact that anti-fascists have become controversial says a lot about the society we live in.

@SW-User yes and the fascists like Obama and his following needs to be removed like a cancer
Calling themself anti fascist is like me calling myself anti granny basher, then going out and bashing grannies...
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@SW-User It only says a lot about the group themselves...they refuse to do anything in any other way than violence, they seek to conquer America, not win it over.
SW-User
@MasterLee I thought Obama was a socialist or communist or something :? And anyway, a key defining aspect to fascism is nationalism, which the likes of Trump and co seem to thrive upon.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SW-User he did nationalize gm and banks...
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@SW-User ANTIFA claims to be anti-fascists, but they are anything but.
SW-User
@sarabee1995 How so?
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@SW-User They use violence and intimidation to eliminate any speech with which they disagree. Sounds like pretty fascist technique to me for a group claiming to be anti-fascist.

If they truly are anti-fascists, then they should embrace and encourage all speech (the good, the bad, and they ugly) in order to let the court of public opinion pass judgement.
SW-User
@sarabee1995 When did they do that?
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@SW-User Do you watch the news at all?
SW-User
@sarabee1995 Yes, but that's never shown. So give me some examples :?

SW-User
@sarabee1995 Ok. Any others?
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@SW-User Ok what? Okay, they proved themselves to be pretty fascist in that incident? Okay, that incident doesn't matter? Okay what?

And yes, they have been attempting to shut down speech they oppose all over the country. They are by definition anti-American.

If you or they disagree with someone, then meet on a stage and let the ideas fly. The public is pretty smart. They can recognize bullshit when it is thrown.

@sarabee1995 there sure have this election cycle
SW-User
@sarabee1995 I said OK because someone brought that incident up earlier, but couldn't produce any other incidents in the same way you cannot seem to. Although, where have they tried to shut down free speech? Maybe our definitions of free speech differ since we live in different countries.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@MasterLee This past election cycle Americans had an absolutely awful choice. I was so pissed that this was my choice for my first ever presidential vote. We had to choose between bad and worse. I voted for neither and when for not-quite-as-bad with a third party vote. But the truth is that the only way Donald Trump could've been elected was for Hillary Clinton to be the Democrat candidate.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SW-User why would she need to?
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@sarabee1995 honesty
SW-User
@MasterLee Because I'm genuinely curious. Remembering that, because I live on the other side of the world, we don't hear about this stuff very much, so I'm trying to understand.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@SW-User Seattle (the WTO protests), the occupy Wall Street movement ... both included large numbers of claimed ANTIFA members, both sought to shut down opposition speech rather than to engage in public discourse. There have been MANY other incidents where the ANTIFA movement and its members have sought to silence rather than to engage.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SW-User I know. They filter facts out in favor of their narrative.

@TotalMiss It actually is. For reals.

Fascism /ˈfæʃɪzəm/ is a form of radical authoritarian nationalism, characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, and control of industry and commerce, that came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe.
