just a curious thought...

when trump won presidency... a lot of people were in a state of mass hysteria...

did it also happened when Obama became president? did people jokingly shouted that the white house is going to turn black? [sorry for the racism its just a question] i also watched a southpark episode...did McCain fans got depressed when obama won?

i'm not from american but it doesn't hurt to ask right?
SW-User
No. When Obama was elected, there wasn't as much hysteria. I voted for McCain, but certainly did not care if Obama was black or not. I also did not throw a fit or protest. Shit happens. Sometimes who you want in doesn't get in. Big deal and it honestly has not changed most people's day to day lives either way.
SW-User
@TexChik LOL! Well yeah, there's that, but I was thinking "most people's lives." I know Obamacare effed over so many people and it's awful. I personally know a few people it really screwed. I was thinking more along the lines of "the people still got up in the morning and were able to breathe and whatnot regardress of who they voted for." With Trump as president, some libs are acting like irrational rabid dogs.

@SW-User There are always other stories. I personally know a few people who were finally able to get coverage under Obamacare. It's a flawed law. But the system that was there before was deeply flawed as well.

Note that one of the big reasons why it's hard to repeal the ACA is because nobody wants to go back to the days where a preexisting condition made you uninsurable without a group plan. That part of the repeal is very hard to sell to most folks.
SW-User
@QuixoticSoul Oh yeah. There's definitely no easy answer and no one wants to outright screw people over.
SW-User
There was no mass protests, I cannot even remember a small one happening when he won. There might have been some tea party groups here and there that protested, but they didn't destroy cars, buildings, attack cops and their horses. No on wanted to blow up the White House.

I think most were optimistic, we were proud to have our first black president. I was excited. It meant that America wasn't a racist nation, it meant we grew from the past prejudices. I was happy the day he won.

My husband, on the other hand, was not. He didn't feel a one term senator should be president, he didn't have experience.

As time went, I realized that my husband was right. And the changes Obama made was making my heart sickened.

I am a happy Trump voter. Obama is the reason the nation voted Trump in. It is weird that the establishment is claiming a surge in racism. I voted Trump, as did many others who also, like me, voted Obama. I didn't turn racist. I don't judge skin color, simply put..... I didn't like the direction our country was going.... Hillary promised more of the same.

What's going on now, is manipulation meant to paint the USA in a dark light. And it unfortunately is the media, democrats, and a few republicans doing it. I don't know why. They don't seem to stand for anything other than, they only parrot one another..... Russia, Racist, and all the other names and slander they call our President AND the public.

@SW-User i see trump voters as just someone who want to make american great again...or rather people part of the right wing [i don't mean to offend...but not sure if i can call him Pragmatic]
SW-User
@quinnVneck The truth is, it wasn't just right wingers that voted for him. He won over democrats and independents. I happen to be an independent. I see the folks that voted for him as the forgotten Americans, the ones that didn't have a voice when we got fined for not being able to afford obamacare. The ones who watched Obama apologize for us Americans, scold us Americans.... make all cops look like villains and build up terror groups like BLM.

Because of the pain it caused, watching and listening to Obama speak ugly at times, I can emphasize with those that hear the same from Trump.

It strikes me that we can hear the same speech and yet hear two completely different things. I guess it's all about perception. I perceived Obama's words as harmful and divisive. Now others are perceiving Trump's word the same way.

Difference is, I took out my frustration in the voting booth. Today they take out their frustration on the voters themselves with violence and threats. I can only equate this to being the result of the changes our nation has inherited over the last eight years of Obama.

You're greatly overestimating the amount of violence and threats. There is no revolution brewing. I remember similar hysteria among the left about right wing militias during Obama's presidency. It's all silliness. Wingnuts will make noise, but the country will go on.

I don't know of any other president that caused a marked, sharp rise in suicide rates, no.

@katielass True

@UndeadPrivateer Like I assessed, your elevator doesn't go to the top floor. Give it up hon, I'm not going to trigger you. I have many years of studies and the stats to support my assertions.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@katielass You can throw as many half-assed insults as you want, all I'm doing is laughing at your idiocy. Mind linking some of those studies and stats?
TexChik · F
Obama was a novelty and his only opposition was John McCain 🙄...

Trump is here because of Obama
TexChik · F
@quinnVneck in theory , he is a Rino ( Republican InName Only )
katielass · F
@nedkelly Backs lives sure got worse under obama. But that was the plan.
SW-User
@katielass Prove either point you just made.

There were many protests, many of them racist in nature, when Obama was elected. I personally heard from those who thought the US was on it's way to becoming a 3rd world country. Chuck Norris (a famous actor...ish) complained there would be a thousand years of darkness. I don't believe I've ever seen anything like this latest post-election frenzy, however.

None of that happened, and we'll probably rebound from Trump, too, but it'll take a lot of policy reversal. I'm sure McCain's supporters were depressed when he lost to Obama and then Trump, as was 54% of the country who didn't vote for Trump.
katielass · F
No it didn't. obama was criticized for what he did. Every criticism was backed up with facts. And the only 'defense" ever produced was "you're a racist". Beyond laughable. There is a reason for 8 years between 64% and 68% of Americans said we were headed in the wrong direction. obama policies and actions.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@katielass It's 64% right now. Seems that not much has changed in this regard.
katielass · F
Rasmussen polling data. You can see how the polling was when obummber was in office and how it dramatically changed when trump was elected. It's not surprising that it has gone backwards a little this past week with the constant barrage of propaganda being leveled against the president day after day for the past 10 months.

@QuixoticSoul with over 300 million people here, 4% is a large number.
SW-User
No. But I remember there were people online who stated there shouldn't be a n***er in the whithouse. Some came up with the slogan NOBama. And of course there were some people who made news being caught with a dummy of Obama hanging from a noose from a tree. During Obama's first term.
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
@SW-User and other times...an OBAMA SAW GAME in the internet =D
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
There was a little bit of trouble here and there, but not as much. Might have something to do with that he was a lot less offensive on the campaign trail. Despite what some may say, Trump is actually very polarizing. Part of his campaign strategy was to go out of his way to insult people.
AlmostAnAngel · 100+, F
Seems many here are showing their true racist colors. And yes they did.
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
@AlmostAnAngel i guess...i'm just curious myself
Madelenie · 26-30, F
Nope, it doesn't hurt to ask, I'm not an american and i wonder too
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
There was some violence and outbursts, someone torched a black church in Massachusetts, but nothing too systematic. Yes, a lot of people made a ton of racist comments. Frankly, they still do. You'll come across it frequently enough here on SW.

Mass hysteria is normal. People freaked out when Bush won too.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
No, not so much. The difference now it the media missed the boat, all their predictions and projections were wrong. They were just out of touch with the main stream voters here. They still aren't over it and may never be. 🙂
SW-User
No ... most Americans actually like Obama ...let me think hmmm ...maybe because he wasn't an insane, racist ,misogynistic pig spawn from Satan ....that might have something to do with it
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@SW-User I think he is a nice guy.....what does that have to do with anything?
Tres13 · 51-55, M
