Destroy all the slave owners statues?

Maybe we should tear down all the statues and destroy the monuments to former slave holders, like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ulysses S. Grant.
Will that make everyone happy and less triggered?

Grant never owned slaves. None of these people were traitors and ordered the murder of United States Army soldiers or promoted armed rebellion against the Constitution. Lee should have been hung.

@Niburu I stand corrected. Grant owned one slave, William Jones, from 1857 to 1859 and then freed him.

@SW-User He also managed a few on the family farm, not really owned the per say.
The thing of it is at that time numerous people that fought in the Union had slaves.
Lastly the civil was never exclusively (or primarily) fought over slavery.

@SW-User I agree but I don't think Lee should have been hanged. As soon as he lost the war, that was it, he gave up. He didn't try to keep the Confederate cause alive and he insisted on abiding by the rule of the Union because they won.

@BlueMetalChick for me the hanging would have been for the treason itself There is a phenomenon called "the lost cause" myth of the confederacy which Lee was in part responsible for creating as well.

@SW-User Its funny you mention that cos I was just reading about the Lost Cause on Wikipedia.

@BlueMetalChick wow, that is funny. I can't share a link but read this in the ny times the other day...(a Google search will pull it up)
