Sometimes I Can't

I want to be charming
I want to enchant.
I want to smile,
but sometimes I can't.

I want to engage,
to let down my guard.
To show who I am,
but sometimes it's hard.

To open up to you
I want to confide.
reveal all my secrets,
but I always hide.

To be positive and cheery,
and live in the light.
To emerge from the shadows
But sometimes it's too bright.

Forgive me, my friend,
for this little rant.
I want to be happy,
But sometimes I can't.
