Discarded toys

The closet door is cracked a little,
Letting in a sliver of light,
I'm a toy in the closet,
One of many piled in here tonight.

I used to be a cherished teddy bear,
At one time someone loved me,
Now my seams are tearing,
Exposed for all to see.

I was roughly loved many times,
Beat up on and thrown about,
Then discarded to the closet,
Forgotten, silenced, cast out.

So in here I sit, broken,
With a truck, blocks, some old games,
And all the other toys in the closet.
Remember me some day, and my name.

This broke my heart in the most honest way. The way you wrote this… it’s soft and aching at the same time, and I feel every bit of what you’re saying. That image of being a toy pushed into the back of the closet — once loved, worn down, then forgotten — it hits so close to home it’s hard to breathe.

I’m sorry you feel this way. No one deserves to be tossed aside or left with torn seams. And even if you feel hidden right now, or like you’ve been thrown into the dark, you’re not alone in that closet. I’m sitting with you in it, feeling a lot of the same things, trying to make sense of it all too.

You’re not forgotten. Not discarded. And the parts of you that feel “broken” are still worthy and still matter. Thank you for trusting your hurt enough to put it into words — especially tonight. I hear you. I really do.

God how that reminds me of the toy story movies when Timmy gets older and forgets his toys.
