Yeah that’s true
There's no reason why he couldn't go on to live a full and relatively normal life. Some people with Down Syndrome are able to work if they are trained by someone who understands their learning style.
Living alone isn't always the big, scary barrier it looks to be, either. Maybe he could start out in a place where he has access to on-call wardens to buzz for help when he needs it and see how he goes from there.
Don't let family members tear him (or you) down.

@HootyTheNightOwl you are right. Like I said he love as he is and he's prefect in every way
@Cigarguy It's okay to not have the answers right now. Down Syndrome or not, he's still a child - and he just wants a childhood, like all children do.
You'll know when the time is right to start guiding him towards the household maintenance tasks he will need to learn to be an independent man and live by himself. He might be able to learn those at home with the help and support of both of his dads and the wider family... he might even enjoy learning new ways that he can help out around the house with his dads watching on, too.

@HootyTheNightOwl you are right, now is not the time to worry about it. Right now he's snuggled up next to me and I'm walking him play Mario kart. Best way to send the money

It's probably a good idea to take some of that extra money Joel has been tucking away for the mortgage, and put it into a high interest rate long term CD. And assign a trustee. That way if your older son lives longer than BOTH of you, he will have SOME funds, even if he is not able to work.
