My friend Tom actually got bedsores on his tailbone when he was in rehab, and the sore kept splitting. The nurse finally sent him to a wound doctor. The wound doctor said that the cushion style above would actually be bad for a tailbone wound, because it spreads the cheeks a little bit, and the wound would have ended up splitting even more.
What he recommended is called a ROHO cushion, which is filled with small adjustable air pockets. It's extremely soft to sit upon, and is normally used by people in wheelchairs.

@4meAndyou When I had surgery they stuck a soft pad on the back of my calves and on my tailbone area to prevent pressure sores. Hopefully this cushion will help prevent them during my recuperation after the next surgery.
