What? Why would me showing my face mean that I'm looking for a hookup?
Y'all wild out here.
Y'all wild out here.
SW-User
Oh no, I meant that maybe some people are looking for a date on here not everyone that posts a picture @DearAmbellina2113
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@SW-User oh ok lol
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
Old habit. Have done so since EP days. I'm a dude and there isn't much to see. If you are a woman and you show your face, then yeah, you're gonna get spammed/harassed by desperate losers out of the blue sight unseen, sadly.
Trust me, that rarely happens to me, so that's the upside.

That’s why I don’t show my face. There’s a lot of jerks in the internet. There’s some creepy women too. @GeistInTheMachine

I used to always use my face so people would know who they’re talking too.
It’s for transparency.
But these days I don’t because people either accuse of being fake, or like you’re saying, for a certain type of attention.
I like seeing people’s faces.

@SW-User I like seeing faces too but I rather stay safe than sorry. You never know who’s going to harass you on here. Once an old jerk used my avatar on his. It was traumatizing for me.
Saucylover · 26-30, F
@SW-User Yeah, that’s why I use my face too. I’ve been called fake before, but now my account is verified. You’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. If you show your face, people think you are seeking attention. If you don’t show your face people think you are weird, spam, a robot, creep, etc. I say, just do what feels right to you. There is a profile pic option for a reason.
SW-User
I think they are expressing themselves through faces so that they seem more approachable. And to give other members the chance to get to know them. Much better than the SW avatars that have no substance
SW-User
@SW-User I do agree but women get harassed once in a while when they show their whole face here.
SW-User
@SW-User That is very true. Wish their was another way to make that happen other than blocking
calicuz · 56-60, M
No, they think it's like FB when they first get here. Too bad they have to learn the hard way that SW is nothing like FB.
SW-User
Lol I know ! @calicuz
revenant · F
I am afraid of my pic getting stolen and misused
SW-User
@revenant oh that’s a rational fear 😧
revenant · F
@SW-User happened to me before so..
SW-User
I’m soo sorry @revenant

I want people to see who they are talking to - probably because I prefer to see who I'm talking to. It just adds a certain level of personalization and friendliness to any interaction. Afterall, isn't connecting with others the reason we are on SW?
SW-User
I agree with all you say. The problem comes when some wacko tries to harass women with their pictures and it has happened many times before. @Ontheroad
Ontheroad · M
@SW-User yeah, I get that and 100% understand why some women decide not to risk using an avatar that shows their face. I hate that this has to be a reason, but I totally get it.
SW-User
@Ontheroad it’s sad but true. We wish it wasn’t true.
nonsensiclesnail · F
I’m assume they are doing what they feel they need to to be seen as genuine people. Maybe make real connections. Possibly for love, but likely for ‘real’, or personal connection.
SW-User
I agree, I like to be real but I don’t want anyone trying to force me to be their online gf. @nonsensiclesnail
CestManan · 46-50, F
People sometimes worry about their pics being misused but I cannot imagine that happening a lot.
Reason is there are so many online "entertainers" out there competing for attention that if someone has only a couple pics, like say they stole them, it just isn't gonna draw much attention.

Nothing to hide
SW-User
I’m sure you don’t @icedsky
JustNik · 51-55, F
When I do, it’s just a sense of being more authentically present, I guess. Closer to a normal interaction. I find the anonymity a little disconcertingly floaty sometimes, even if I do recognize the appeal or the need to maintain at least some of it.
SW-User
I agree with you. I don’t really like hiding ones face but sadly it’s safer. If only there wasn’t wackos online then we can show our faces more without fear. @JustNik
Fairydust · F
I have nothing to hide here, just like other social platforms, I’m the same here as I am there.
I’ve never been into sharing my lady garden etc 🪴🤣 maybe the ones that hide, don’t hide other things. 😝

Mispost. Took me to wrong thread.

Some people just love the attention.
They like being seen.
But if you see them.posing a lot of being
rather provocative they may be looking for a cheap thrill. 😊
