Windows 10 support ends on Oct 14 - act now!

If you are making a bootable Windows 10 USB flash drive before Oct 14 when Win 10 support officially ends, one thing I have noticed is that MS is blocking directly downloading the ISO disk image. Any link that says 'download windows 10 disc image ISO file' or similar is being forcibly re-directed to the method using the official MS media creation tool. ie

That works fine, but you don't get as much control as you do if you can use Rufus and a downloaded ISO file. I'm running the process now and it's trickling along with my slow NBN connection at about 5 percent per minute.

You need a bare minimum 8 gb flash drive, but 32 and 64 gb ones are very cheap now.

My work is trying to get all staff to upgrade their personal PC's to Win 11 but as a tech girl I do not like the amount of oversight/control MS is pushing for with 11, and particularly the requirement to use a Microsoft account (I don't have one).

I would prefer to dump Windows entirely and go back to a real OS (Linux probably) as it's got a much longer history (from about 1970 when original Unix came about). Only good thing with Windows is the 'pseudo' MS-DOS command prompt window.

When I can run steam os seamlessly I won't even own a windows installation.

Okay, thanks for that! I was warned last February that Windows 10 would not be supported beyond October, so I guess all those rumors were true!
