Basically in Windows 11 you need a MS account and a 365 subscription to be able to use notepad. I think by the time Windows 12 comes out, you'll have to pay a yearly fee to use it. This is beyond crazy.

@markinkansas I just saw a comment about Zorin OS, and it has some kind of Windows emulator? I used Linux Mint 19 but ran into a lot of problems just trying to game. But now that we have Proton and Protontricks, Wine and winetricks, gaming might not be too terrible for setting up. I'm curious now though to look at Zorin OS, the commenter mentioned it's like Windows, but so is Linux Mint.
All I really want is an OS I can use, without ads, without nagging, without all the extra BS, and just play my games, or watch YouTube etc. But yea, I will be a Windows 10 holdout until the very end, and then I'll make that move to Linux.
@twiigss me also . never tried that so what the heck. removable c drive . i can try several things.. right now i am on 7 still and one is running 10.. 11 i think not . however i might be forced to go that way. thanks for the reply
@markinkansas I have an older PC in my closet, but to get that out and set up would mean, 2 keyboards, 2 mice, one of my monitors would have to plug into that and I think it's a VGA hookup, and I don't have the room for running 2 PC's. But if I could do it on the other computer, that would be great because then I could test out Zorin OS and see how that runs and operates. If I can just figure out how to get my games to work on a Linux setup, I'd move from Microsoft to Linux in a heartbeat. And yeah thanks for the replies as well :)
@twiigss into just one moniter if wanted or dual i believe i read that right.. my specter tv has 3 hdmi one vga and one the old games systems the rgb .. so lots of input . kvm switch got rid of a lot of cables running accost the floor . just push a button and keyboard mouse and dock switchs over.. amazon has many different ones tho... edited for context bandwidth not use is bandwidth wsted
@markinkansas Yeah so right now I have 2 monitors one PC. I could bring out that other PC and put Linux on it. So I could have my current PC running into the KVM and from the KVM to the monitors? Sorry I don't understand how it works. Probably best to watch a youtube video on it :)
@markinkansas Yeah I kinda have that too, well just a lot of gaming consoles, but they're all on the entertainment center. So I have my cords routed through flex conduit that I work with at my job to kind of make the cord situation look not so bad lol. I did just watch a video on the KVM, I get it now. Yeah I could definitely use that. The more familiar I could get with a Linux setup, the better I would feel about making the switch. I used Linux Mint for all of 2 days, and was doing live boot sessions for a month before that. Just the gaming part of it didn't go over so well.
