Fastest way to transfer data from a pc to a laptop?

I recently bought a new laptop for editing photo's but I've been dreading the mammoth task of transferring my photo's and music to it. Is there a quick way without having to use a USB stick?

enable "file and printer sharing" then copy paste over the network. you can also pull the HDD out of the old computer and usb attach to the new one
