Does having your laptop charging cable plugged in all the time mean longer battery life or anything?

No. Laptop battery constantly charging or kept at full charge means reduced battery life.
Ideally you'd want to unplug it when the battery reaches 80% and plug it back in when the battery reaches 30%

it damages the battery

No, a battery can only accept so much charge.
That said, when available, mine is on charge the whole time.

@Gusman so you keep it plugged in all the time?

Leaving a laptop battery plugged in all the time will kill the battery. Only has happened to me plenty of times.

@twiigss yeah i have a newer laptop called the hp stream 14 and it's a fast computer and it charges fairly quick

I don't think so, but I charge mine all the time.

It shortens the life time of the battery. Which is why I like Samsung computers because you have a feature that stops charging the battery after 85%
