@Persephonee I did find a way to install windows without having to log in to a MS account which gave me some independence, but Fedora lets me do all I need without having to use terminal that often.

@Maturebate I've noticed with Linux Mint, you can do things in the terminal, and you can do those same things in the GUI. Like making a program executable. I like having the knowledge of being able to do it both ways, but will typically do tasks with the GUI over terminal.

(a) one doesn't ever really need to use the terminal unless one wants to and
(b) if one does, there is a huge community of people who have already suggested the appropriate commands you might want for a particular task just a quick internet search away.
Because I never remotely grew up up in any faintly nerdy/really-into-computers household, I just assumed Linux (Mint anyway) was just for people who love computers and love making live hard for themselves.
It is different, but I reckon it's actually far easier - and more configurable - than Windows to use. (To say nothing of the OS not spying on you)

@whowasthatmaskedman Yeah I have a laptop I bought from walmart many years ago, and that still has Windows 7 Home Premium on it. Thought about changing it over to Linux and then thought well I'll keep it around just in case I need it for something, but so far I haven't needed it for anything regarding a need to get something from Windows or whatever or thought about anything I'd need to test etc.

Sometimes with newer machines you have to flash the boards with boot from USB support.

Yeah I would think most keyboards and laptop keyboards would be backlit. It certainly would be a nice feature to have.

My phone. Android. I'm sick and tired of the operating systems and computers. Like you I started with dos before msdos and cpm before that. It's all becoming a miserable headache.

I don't think I could do the ..what is it..command line thing even in the Windows friendly distros..if i had a second computer maybe I would but many programs I use daily wouldn't run

@bookerdana yeah if you didn't grow up using DOS, commandline will be a lot tougher.
Fortunately when we got a computer, MS-DOS was the only OS at the time.
