I also have an WD 2Tb 2,5" external drive with movable parts inside beside my 2tb Kingston SSD drive. But these two together gives 4 tb...a huge capacity. As the pics shows the WD drive is bigger in size and heavier in weight than Kingston SSD that almost have no weight at all. Maybe I anytime change it and buy one more Kingston SSD.
@SwedenGuy sometimes they even sold flash drives inside of an enclosure that looks like an SSD
The easiest is to either get a good one from a reputable brand new, or buy an nvme enclosure with good reviews and an nvme and throw it in there yourself
Mechanical Drives are always heavier and are prone to a higher failure rate due to the way they work. I would not keep it attached to your laptop if you move the laptop around. They are fine for storage though. It will just be slower than the SSD.
@Jessmari I know SSD is much faster and has no movable parts. I never carry my laptop with me, it stays home permanently. I maybe clean and sell my mechanical drive and change it to one more SSD drive.
Replacing that 2TB mechanical hard drive with an external SSD is only justified if you're using it as a fast external storage device. For example, if you're using this storage in a PS3 or Xbox 360, replacing the external mechanical drive with an SSD is worthwhile. You'll definitely notice a dramatic decrease in loading times. Of course, it won't match the read speed of the motherboard's integrated SATA, but it will greatly improve game loading times. In cases like this, it's the only justifiable upgrade. But if you're only using it to store information and access it at specific times, your current setup is more than adequate.
