Okay, so I did some of my own research on this. Typically I run Firefox, with AdBlocker Ultimate and uBlock Origin. So I ran two tests.
I was only looking for peak values during this test, since you mentioned youtube making CPU overwork and run hotter if using an adblocker.
In the first test I was letting the machine run normal. No other programs were open, only the background processes were running.
For the next two test, I was only looking for the highest peak values. On this test, I was using my typical set up with Firefox. I got a peak of 27% CPU usage.
Finally, I decided to close Firefox and decided to run Chrome with youtube. In chrome I have no adblockers or anything else running. I got a peak of 25% CPU usage.
I personally didn't see anything that looked questionable, and I let each video run for about 3 minutes.

@twiigss If I get a chance maybe I'll run some on my laptop. Six and eight core CPU's probably won't suffer much, my regular PC has a six core.

I'll have to look at that but I run an ad blocker and uBlock Origin 100% of the time.

I hardly ever use YouTube. I mean once every few months and that's only I really want to see something.
