Copying items - about 6 days [I Have a Mac]

well that's what it says. The plan is, i'm emptying a hard drive to another and then i will use the first drive to create a time machine copy and then i will totally erase my mac. Never done so the last ~ 11 years i got it.. but lately it's really really slow so i figured it needs that. I can't get a new one for the moment. But 6 days? 🥴 I hope it'll change its mind as time passes by..

I used to do that all the time — back everything up, reformat the hard drive, then reinstall the operating system, applications and restore the content files. Of course, this was back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and it only took me a couple hours. I stopped doing this when I had to switch to using a PC — way too complicated, made a mess when I tried it. I haven't done it since I switched back to Mac.

@DunningKruger I need to get better organised this time.
..well i was expecting a few hours and not the week of creation but maybe if i'll turn of the browser and let it by itself it might get a little faster. I'm happily anticipating this clean format though :)

@elafina When I got my new machine last year (!), I was planning on doing a clean install of the OS and the applications, and then copying over my files. It turned out, though, that it was a whole lot easier to just let the transfer software take care of it. I have lost most of my interest in fiddling with tech that I used to have.

@DunningKruger yes me too i'm not so excited and i like the simplicity of nowadays apps. I mean i had some periods where i was excited, and i might have again just not the last years.

@Mordi ok plans changed, i did partitioned the hard drive and let now the time machine-partition handle the backup instead
