I downloaded a bird identification app

One reason I rarely download stuff is because it leaves one open to viruses and the like.
Someone suggested to me the App - Merlin -was excellent for bird identification.
So against my better judgement I downloaded it.
Within minutes my laptop went bung.
The Google search engine was removed, replaced by Yahoo. So much was not working.
I tried removing Yahoo and restoring Google. No luck.
I rang Geeks to you. They came and fixed my laptop for a fee of $200.
I don't mind paying as long as the problem is fixed.
I will not be downloading any apps in the near future.

Was this app on Google Play store?

If so, I definitely would report it. Google itself mostly certainly will ban it!

Play store apps are always scanned for such things no matter what. So I sure hope you didn't download it elsewhere off the internet.

There are other free virus apps on Play store. Again Google certainly scans even those apps.

I may not be a fan of Google. There are other things that I don't like about Google. Even on playstore.

If you're not careful Google will remove other apps on any device. You must specifically turn that option off after you login before you download anything. Yet the option is available, if difficult to find.

I have yet to receive a actual virus from Play store though.

@DeWayfarer It was not from Google Play.
Should I send a bill to Merlin or Yahoo 🙂

@Gusman Merlin. Because the app is their code. They are responsible for whatever add-ons yahoo gave them. Including any warnings they likely forgot to mention.

@DeWayfarer Thank you. I will contact them and see what they have ti say.
