Problem with laptop after adding a new battery and RAM

I have a 15 inch HP laptop.
It's about 2.5 years old and the battery began to die on me.
So, I bought a new one from amazon and added 8GB of RAM while it was open.

The battery lasts several hours when it is unplugged, and it processes much faster. Great!

But, sometimes the screen locks up. I can't move the cursor.
I have tried hitting function/insert and that works, but then a blue highlight expands over the page. If I move the page up and down it highlights the entire page.

If I try using control / alt /delete, it returns to normal after I x out of it.

But then the problem randomly returns later.

It has to be something simple I am overlooking.

Any suggestions?

Might be overheating and freezing up your video card. Have the geek squad look at it.

@TexChik We concluded that the reason it was messing up is because when I was replacing the battery, a couple of plastic mounts fell out of the screw holders. When I tightened it down, the plastic housing bowed, and it impacted the touchpad. All they did was loosen the screws.......lol

@DallasCowboysFan Good. I usually run a minimum of 32 gigs of Ram in my laptops, with a 2 TB SSD and an i7 processor.
